Default favoritism in devices...

I'm sure people have been hearing(and joining in on) the bashing of the 9570, but why not with the 9780? Its the same kind of predecessor to the 9700 as the 9570 is to the 9550 right? All I'm hearing is good news about the 9780 and it just makes me wonder... I have a 9550 and will not be getting a 9570 due to the minor updates. Shouldn't we be hearing the same thing for the 9780?

I have been chewing on this question myself, and here are my thoughts:

It comes down to benchmarking

The bold is the benchmark of keyboard phones. It gets nothing but praise. Other keyboard phones are compared to it. The bold line has been successful, and its owners are content.

The storm however is not the benchmark in its class - that would the iphone. It is constantly compared to the iphone, and seems to fall short.

Simply put the Bold is at the top of its game in its class, and the storm is not.

Just my two cents.

True enough, the Storm has had an uphill battle while the Bold has enjoyed success. Also however, it's a matter of whom these devices would appeal to. I think we can agree that for the most part, people who hold a 9700 or a 9550 won't be interested in such a minor upgrade. For those that hold 8900s or were introduced to BB by the Curve 85xxs, would be getting quite an upgrade with the 9780. Many people who had the S1 and wanted to keep with SurePress went with the S2. The rest already abandoned the Storm series. I don't think there's quite the market for the 9570 as there is for the 9780 just because of previous device success.

Which would be followed by an Apple lawsuit.
