Incredible. I just spent about 3 hours with Rogers and nobody seems to be able to do anything for me, not even adding on talkspot to my plan! Heck, they were saying how the 9900 doesn't even have wi-fi according to their "catalogue". The lady was nice about it but she couldn't do anything to help. Ugh.

Lucky for y'all, not so much for me!

Nope. Just seems to work right after installing the hybrid OS. Of course, Rogers doesn't know I changed phones because I bought my 9900 outright from Future Shop. I know if they look hard enough they can probably tell but I had the service when I was using an 8900. When I go to the "My Rogers" online usage site it shows some generic phone as an icon and it used to show the actual model I was using.

We'll see if Talkspot is truly working when I get my next bill.

If you have the MyRogers setup so you can access your account from a pc, go into the modify add-ons option and wifi calling is in the "Talk More for less Tab". It is a $5 option and if you are in a wifi area most of the day, it gives incredible battery life, as it shuts off the cellular radio. There are other rates, such as $10 for unlimited local wifi calling or $25 for unlimited back to Canada long distance calling.

I have been using it for the past five days, but will probably remove the service from my account as I really don't need it. I just wanted to know if it worked so I could enable it when traveling to get the cheaper long distance rates.

Hey Robsteve

I just took a look at mergers and the option isn't available. Are you using the 9900?

The only options I have are:
Call Waiting $2.00/mth
Detailed Billing $3.00/mth
Auto Roadside Premium Plan $5.00/mth
First Incoming Minute Free $8.00/mth
MY5 Talk $10.00/mth
MY5 $15.00/mth
MY5 Canada-wide $20/mth

UMA won't work if just you enable it on your phone - you need something called "UMA/WiFi calling access", this allows UMA to actually connect and be used.

When you have just the access option, it basically re-routes all your cell traffic (voice, sms, data) via WiFi. It offers no addition airtime, no long distance, nothing. Just UMA access.

Once you move into one of the UMA packages that offers access AND unlimited local calling, or access AND a long distance package, will you not be hammered for your minutes.

The only real benefit of just UMA access is that when you travel, using UMA, all calls you place back to your home calling area are counted as local calls. Or in my case, I use UMA when I'm at the cottage and have low-to-no cell signal, and use WiFi instead.
