Smile UMA finally coming for the 9700, 9300 and 9100

Looks like Rogers will very soon be enabling support for UMA on the 9700, 9300 and 9100, all 3G devices. See the .PDF file from their website that discusses this exciting development.

No specific date mentioned, other than the student plans deals mentioned will only be running for the next 3 months, and Rogers indicates the the required software update will be available during this period.

This means that Rogers has finally upgraded its UMA/GAN servers to support 3G devices, which should mean that all future 3G devices that support UMA (like the 9800) will also be supported!

The older 9000 handset hardware/firmware doesn't support UMA, period.

All the other handsets listed do support UMA, it was just Rogers' servers that did not support UMA on 3G devices in the past. The servers now appear to have been recently upgraded - still waiting for the official announcement.

Aha, that would be a pretty good reason, wouldn't it. Thanks!

If you have the option to select uma or wifi calling under mobile network, you can enable it on your account using the myRogers web site and account add-ons.

There is UMA support on the 9100, please ensure your software is up-to-date.

Go here, https://swdownloads.blackberry.com/D...2003FFAD.node1

Select the 9100. If the software version in Options > About, on your device, doesn't match the version listed on the page above, perform a software update.

And as the poster above mentioned, ensure you have the TalkSpot/WiFi calling option added to your account, first.
