Default Rogers pushing Android phones

Hey all, I was just a Rogers store in the mall talking to the manager about the new blackberry lineup to see when they were going to come out. I have known this manager for a number of years and he has always been a big bb guy. I asked him what phone he was using and he pulled out the Galaxy S. I asked him what was up with that. He told me that rogers has based their employee incentive program on how many non bb or iphone they sell with a voice and data plan. He switched to the Galaxy because he says most of the customers want to use what ever the sales person is using and in turn he sells a ton of them. Not exactly good news for the new bb line up when rogers head office has them pushing all the $99 androids.

99 Buck Android? What devices? Either way, that's the sad fact of sales, especially carrier sales

Damn. Back in 2010 the salesperson I knew had a blackberry. And a sales person I know now has a BB. The other two Sales people have BBs too but also an iphone 4. So many stupid adults and "trendy" kids have the iphone4 -_-

I'm guessing because Rogers wants to put focus on devices that are exclusive to Rogers.

Part of it is Exclusives I am sure.

and part of it is getting people to get out of non smartphones, there are more options and more price points with the NON RIM, NON Apple products.

on Rogers you have

LG Phoenix, $9.99 on 3 year term running Android 2.2
Sony Xperia PLAY $49.99 on 3 year term running Android 2.3
Samsung Nexus S $49.99 on 3 year term running Android 2.3

this gives you devices to push that will get people using data and increasing their plans over time, with BlackBerry's they can go Pay as you Go and spend $30 per month for unlimited BBM, and Social networks, you don't drive up your cost per month on BB's and Rogers is hurting the most in Canada with voice plan erosion, they need people TALKING on the phones. BB's promote NON talking even more than other phones

I actually went into the wireless wave yesterday to see what phones they had to offer. We went in looking to see the new BB line up. The sales guy pretty much pushed the Samsung Galaxy II 4G on us.. Granted it was a decent phone. But this was wireless wave and the phone was with bell. So im not sure if its just Rogers or just ALL companies are being offered more commission on android devices...

The Rogers store here is still pushing BlackBerry. Two of the salespeople there have 9800s, one has a 9780, the manager has a 9800. They're all decently knowledgeable about BlackBerries as well; we discussed BB7 and the new devices as well as RIM's manufacturing processes.

One difference here is that the store is not a corporate store, though you wouldn't know the difference without asking them.
