Default Rogers' Local WiFi calling a SCAM!!!

Hey.

Back in August, my brother bought a new 9700 with a Student Plan. Included in the student plan was "Unlimited Local WiFi Calling". When at home, my brother was able to connect to our home wifi, the BB would switch from 3G to UMA and he'd be able to make unlimited calls anytime of day.

Recently, he's been having connectivity problems. The BB would switch between 3G and UMA and constantly drain the battery. So, I called tech support and they said that since I was on the student plan, my "unlimited local wifi calling" was restricted to CAMPUS WIFI ONLY!!! How bull is that?!?!

How can you name something "Local Wifi calling" and then restrict it to campus wifi only??? Talk about misleading customers!! Plus, the rep who sold it to me in person said I'd be able to use the UMA at home as well. Liars!!!

The only reason he bought this plan was for this feature, and now, it's been taken away from him. After being on the phone for an hour with Rogers, I've talked to 2 customer reps, 1 tech rep, 1 collection agent (transferred to the wrong dept), and 1 manager. And what did I get?? Nothing.

Any Rogers reps on here can help me out?

Thanks.

First of all, posting with foul language doesn't do much to bolster your credibility.

However, it would seem based on this document http://www.rogers.com/studentwificalling/ that the representatives who said that it only works on the campus WiFi are mistaken or misinformed.

I apologize for my language, but I wrote my post right after hanging up with Rogers after being on the phone with them for over an hour. So, I'm sure you could appreciate my frustration.

I may have vented more than I needed to in my post. Again, I apologize.

Motorcycle Mama: Thank you for that link! As you said, it does NOT mention anything to do with the WiFi being restricted to the school campus.

I am able to connect to UMA through my WiFi router at home, however, the data arrows in the top right of the screen are constantly moving. It appears as if it's trying to hold the signal, but is having difficulty doing so (even though I'm 10 feet from my router). As a result, it is draining my battery a lot. Any ideas of what the issue could be?

make sure you have your router set up properly to facilitate your phone's uma connection there's a thread on here somewhere if you search. if the problem persists call rogers back be very pleasant over the phone the nicer you are to them the nicer they will be remember these ppl are basically punching bags for disgruntled customers and let them know your situation good chance they will try an replace the phone could solve your issue

looks to me when I open the link it does NOT say it has to be only at campus. it happened to 2 different people, sounds to me rogers is up to their old tricks. more money more money. I hope you guys settle the issue and if you were overcharged (which is usual with rogers) they give you a credit on your next bill. good luck

I have this Unlimited WiFi Calling plan and don't get charged airtime whenever I'm connected to wifi. But I'm sorry to hear that and that makes no sense. Restricting calling only at you campus when it clealy says "Unlimited WiFi Calling" is truly misleading and a clear lie. I'd talk to a CS rep and fix that since they can credit and change stuff on your plan. If they don't cooporate, threaten to leave them for another carrier.

Ugh this happened to me too. Wasted so much time on the phone with the reps to no avail. Apparently the student contract specifically stated that it was campus only but I don't really buy it, especially since I also clarified with the rep when I first signed up. Will wait for them to email me the contract details and see
