Default rogers help

So- my fiance is currently using a non-smartphone.... she wants to upgrade to the 9780 since her phone isn't working.

She is 9 months into her contract. Rogers isn't playing ball.

Is the cancellation fee 20 dollars a month? Seems steep. Telus maxes theirs out at 200.

Any tips on how to help us get her a phone that works?

Telus has no limit on their cancellation fees either. And if she wants to change her phone then she can buy it outright, she will still need the data plan anyways.

There is no reason for Rogers to give away the free phone as they have already done this when she started the service.

Leave Rogers, they are nothing but fools.
Bell has better pricing right now.

But if she wants to stay with Rogers, go right to retentions/loyalty department and start wheeling.

Call Rogers retentions I believe Rogers cancellation max is $200 as well cause I cancelled a Rogers line in the past year and had about 2 years left and I only paid $200 for a non smartphone.

Bell has better pricing and getting slightly better in customer service

I think the cancellation is $20/month for the remaining of the contract to a maximum of $400 and data is $5/month to max $100. Did she get brand new phone from Rogers with the contract? If so, it should have 1 year manufacturing warranty and should be replaced by Rogers. What about the broken/lost/stolen replacement plan advertised by Rogers? Did you ask them about it? My friend took over his niece’s contract that was just over 1 year old and lost his BB Curve. He called Rogers and wanted to upgrade to BB Torch but they said no to the Torch but they said yes to iphone 4.

This is from Rogers web site.
Rates and offers effective March 3, 2009 and are subject to change without notice.

* Applicable to all plans: Local airtime usage, data usage and/or text messages over that allotted in the plan, long distance and roaming charges, additional wireless service options selected and applicable taxes are extra and are also billed monthly. An Early Cancellation Fee (ECF) applies if, for any reason, your service is terminated prior to the end of the service agreement. The ECF is the greater of (ii) $100 or (iii) $20 per month remaining in the service agreement, to a maximum of $400 (plus applicable taxes), and applies on each line in the plan that is terminated.

I would definitely try retentions, just say you want to cancel when you get through to customer service and they will transfer you. If you are adding a data plan on top of your voice plan, they are usually open to helping you out with an upgrade.

Well here's the deal. Retentions wouldn't give her an upgrade even though she was going to be adding data. I guess they figured they were already soaking her for 65 bucks a month for 200 mins, my5, unlimited texts, voicemail and call id.

So she canceled. Went to both Bell and Telus. Stuck with Bell. Bundled it with our other services with them.

Got the 9780 for 25 dollars, and then a 35 dollar bill credit.

60 a month gets her 200 anytime mins, unlimited evenings and weekends, unlimited texts, my5 nationwide, 1 gig of data, voice mail, call display etc etc.
