Default Interesting comment from Rogers salesperson

So just talking to someone at Rogers about taking advantage of their buy 2 phones on family plan and get free Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. When deciding on phones, the guy told me that "Rogers is no longer pushing sales of BlackBerry due to its impending bankruptcy."

Interesting.

I know. I was really surprised. If you look on the Yahoo Canada news site, almost every day they have an article about the doom & gloom for RIM. Many people have commented that someone from Apple must be writing these articles. Personally I still think that dollar for dollar, you cannot beat a BB for what it's made for - A PHONE. Apps might be fun but they won't help you when the person on the other end of your call keeps saying "what?".

By that logic Blackberry should never have been invented,

In the world of 4G, ever present wifi and dozens of Skype type services, mobile "communications" is increasingly an irrelevant market. RIM is trying its hand with "mobile computing" through the playbook but is failing miserably so far.

It's not physically possible for most low level salesman to speak while sitting.

There's no way this person has inside information that the rest of the world does not. If he had that kind of access, do you think he would be selling phones??

So another interesting "development", but not from Rogers, it's from the CEO of my company.

He has instructed all product managers to get rid of their BlackBerrys and switch to an iPhone or Android immediately, because of the apps that are out there. And I *just* upgraded to my 9790.

I think it's getting out of hand (people jumping ship).

Might want to take a look at their stock price, plus the recent announcement that no BB10 phones to late 2012 (really 2013 if they last).

Bankruptcy might be a wrong word that this seemingly rookie salesperson should not have used. But s/he might be told of something similar from higher up, or just overheard it. S/he would not have invented this sort of "important" story and spread it to their clients in a wrong and misguided way like this. Rogers might indeed be negative about RIM.
No smoke where there is no smouldering :-).

Prediction: The people making all the negative comments and predictions of bankruptcy will be no where to be found in a year.

The Rogers employee is obviously wrong, but it does illustrate the very negative image people have of RIM and their future outlook.

I hear it all the time from family, friends and even strangers... these are people who aren't "in the know" about the industry, but they general sentiment is "Blackberry is dead". It's almost a self-fulfilling prophecy that spreads like a virus.

RIM has an extremely tough uphill battle needing to fight the competition they are so far behind as well as the rightfully/wrongfully negative mindset.
