So I went into a Rogers store in the mall where I live to look at the new Blackberry phones. I just purchased a 9650 unlocked in asking her about data plans I told her I purchased a unlocked phone she proceed to tell me that 97% of unlocked phones don't end up working. I am new to the the blackberry community but if that is true why is it called a global phone. Then she says "Well I don't personally care for Blackberry and then came the iPhone pitch give me a break.

You'll only get EDGE, no 3G. By global, they mean overseas.

LOL wow!

aren't sales staff supposed to be knowledgeable in all cell phone products?

I had walked in to a wireless store to get my early upgrade for the 9700 way back when and the lady actually rolled her eyes on me when she saw my berry lol.

It works because you aren't in North America.
The 3G bands are matched with most out of the country carriers.

I was replying to the other user, who according to their information, resides in Hanoi, Vietnam.

Unlocked Rogers Blackberry can work with At&t and Bell fast speeds connection, and basically it's a question of what frequency bands are used by the carrier you are using and supported with your device. it will always work with other SIM cards for calls SMS, if the bands which it supports are the same used by the other carrier you are using for fast speeds then it will work just fine.
