Default HELP!! My Rogers Cell # Changes By Itself!

Hey Crackberry Community!

I am normally a lurker, not a poster. And lately everything has been going well with my 8900 so I haven't been here for a while. But when things started to get weird, I knew you'd be the guys to ask!

On January 1, 2011 I started the new year with an Ottawa area-code cell number. Without my permission! I happily live in Toronto and have never requested a cell phone number change to an Ottawa area code! I was wondering why my day was so f***ed up with none of my friends texting back their plans for us to go skiing. Halfway through the day I received a text message that explained it: "Welcome to the Rogers network. To activate your voicemail, press and hold 1." I thought, "odd." And followed the prompts. After it didn't accept my password, I called Rogers.

After 4 hours on the phone with Rogers (talking to someone, not on hold this time hah). They found my account. It was hiding. My cell phone number changed. I called saying "647-***-**** is my phone number and they said sorry that number has not been in use for 4 years. I say wtf I've been using it for 3 years.

They work their magic and 4 hours later I have unlimited local calling for the next year and my old number back.

Not so fast. I just woke up at 3am with the same text message. The number is changed back. To the SAME number as was on January 1. That's creepy and now I have to question it.

Is someone remotely hacking my bb somehow to change the cell # to an Ottawa area code? If so, what would be their motive? And how do I keep this from happening again? I have finally made good friends (haha) and I want to keep them but it's hard with these phantom phone number changes!!

HELP PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!

EDIT: When the cell # changes like this, even the Rogers account online shows the change, not just my BB phone screen. Also, my data is not working. That is the one of the first signs when I wake up to zero emails.

someone at rogers messed something up the last time they modified your account. more than likely forcing a change instead of following the system steps. now every time their system refreshes it tries to replicate the change and ends up screwing up your plan. its happened to me a couple times but it took them damn near a week to fix mine.

It's definitely a Rogers problem and not your phone's issue. Call up Rogers and demand them to fix it. With this kind of experience, I'm sure you can get them to offer something to you as compensation. This would definitely be a HUGE hassle, and one that would give you a big argument against them.

If you're on a contract, use it to get out of the contract and port your number to another carrier.
