Default Help with Data Roaming to US on Blackberry Bold

Have spent tons of time on phone with Rogers over the past few months since getting our new Blackberries, and they just can't seem to answer my questions, so here goes:

1. When roaming in US (visit Micigan 1-2x per month), phones switch to AT & T network. Can only receive BBMs -phones will not send BBMs out, unless we take out batteries and switch network service. Why? My sis and brother in law have exact same phones, and they are on Telus, and no issues at all. Phones work as normal.

2. Can't figure out what my regular data roaming rates are? I just used 2.4mbs US roaming, and have no idea what that is going to cost?

Both hubby and I only use BBM while in US - no Internet and no apps in our phones at all to avoid heavy data roaming. Strictly BBM.

If someone here could help, that would be great, as I've spoken to Rogers, as well as their Blackberry specialists (we have Bold 9780), and they are no help.

Thanks so much, Tiger

Are your device settings set so the data roams automatically and on the right network (2G & 3G)? Sometimes, I will get a lag, but I notice that lag if I'm in certain parts of, say, Detroit and start flipping between different networks.

As for data roaming:

If you're using messaging and email:

Quote:
Data transmission charges of $0.006/kB apply when roaming in the U.S. and $0.03/kB when roaming internationally. Visit rogers.com/data for details.
If you're tethering:

Quote:
While roaming in the U.S., data transmission charges of 0.6¢/kB apply. While roaming internationally, data transmission charges of 3¢/kB apply. For flex rate plans, US roaming is charged at $3/MB and international roaming at 3¢/kB.
I'm not sure how the reps didn't know this one

Thanks! Phone is set to pick up networks automatically (as per Rogers reps and Blackberry). We actually have to switch between 2G and 3G and flip out battery, to reset phone, and this works. It's hit or miss as to what speed will work. Hubby was succcessful with 3G but my phone seemed to prefer 2G. Weird as phones are set the exact same way, and are only a few months old!

The reason we are having problems is because there are price discrepancies. Based on my bills, it looks like I'm being charged .01/kb, and that is what the text message says when I enter Michigan. But then I see online other amounts, such as you posted.

For example, used 8kbs last month and it cost .06 cents. So doesn't that compute to around.01/kbs?

Last weekend hubby's used 1000kbs and my phone is say 2.4mbs, but that is totally wrong, as I only sent a few more BBMs then hubby did - no Internet, no apps installed in phone and no email. Phones are strictly used for BBM and voice here at home. So, I do have an issue with the amount used, but that's for another discussion. We are now worried about how much this will cost, as when we called, the reps pointed us to the above cost, and said it wouldn't be much. Now, we aren't so sure? Not even sure what data package to do at this point?

I've tried multiple times, and the reps really don't know. Yesterday was the worst - an outsourced rep in the USA, who had no idea what she was doing, and she hung up on me, as we lost connection! 45 mins with the kids running around, and no answers to my questions!

Thanks for your help! I am convinced there is confusion, so we all buy their data packs, which I see have changed over the past month, as they are now only daily, weekly or a $10.00/month. Last month, the rep gave me different plans that were available for an entire month.

Much confusing, Tiger
