Default handset protection guarantee

So, new years eve, my Torch ends up in the toilet momentarily, not going to get into the story why. Now I have it in a bag of rice, (thank god for my 8900 kicking around). for the last few days and hopefully it'll come back alive. That being said, water damage indicator is a wonderful pink color (rightfully so, I might add).

I was wondering has anyone actually USED this program, how does it work. Is it better to admit the water damage or report the device lost/stolen. Any and all info is appreciated as the info on the website is very vague.

Good news recovered the torch and all is working well except 3 key buttons the call and hang up buttons don't work and the trackpad won't "select" when you push it down. But the touchscreen is working beautifully and I found a work around for the call and answer

If you are not "the faint of heart" i suggest you take the entire BB apart and clean the circuit and all inner workings with rubbing alcohol and leaving out to completely dry. There may still be more moisture left inside and causing your issues.

I would usually recommend to use silica gel as it absorbs moisture alot better. You can usually fin it at The Source.

I would agree at this point with SumthinNew as its your best bet to get your Torch in working order. As far as I know about the handset protection program is: They provide you options in possible replacements and options at $0 if you are far enough into your contract. Since you probably renewed or got your contract with the Torch, you are most likely to get minimal discount maybe $50 and be requried to renew on another 3 year contract.

This is what a Rogers rep told me on how it works.

I believe that's how it works, and the handsets they offer are pretty limited. They don't necessarily offer a replacement of your current phone, but from a selection that Rogers determines.

Handset Protection Guarantee is not based on how long you are into your contract. Same prices and offers apply to everyone no matter where they are in their contract. You get three options with this program

Option 1:
They will offer you a free phone but it will be something basic like a nokia c3, nokia 2220, or nokia 5130.

Option 2:
They will offer you a subsidized phone from a list of phones that are offered in the program at the time. For example, an HTC magic for 149.99, a blackberry curve 8520 for 199.99, acer liquid E for 279.99, LG xenon for 99.99 etc;

Option 3:
If your phone is damaged, than you can have rogers subsidize usually up to $120 of the repair. This works well for all phones, almost making any repair under $30 even LCD damages. This discount however, does not work very well with iphone. Even with this option, iphone repairs ranges around $125

You can only use this program once every three years. It will allow you use the program for options 1 and 2 multiple time, but every time after the 1st time, the discounts are pretty much nullified.

And as far as renewal goes for the contract:

1. If you are within the last year, or done your contract, then your contract will be extended to 1 year.

2. If you have more than 1 year left on your contract, then you will not be recommitted.

3. If you use this program, you will not be eligible to upgrade for 6 months. For example, if you are 2 months outside of being eligible to upgrade, you will have to wait an additional 4 months to upgrade.
