Got my Googe Voice invite...now what?
I received my Google Voice invite yesterday and I am very excited about setting GV up...but I'm in Canada and I'm looking for suggestions on how I should proceed. First let me outline what I have:
Unlocked Bold
Rogers Network - Voice and Data package
Gizmo VOIP account (US) - set up but never used and I cannot get the BB version to work.
What I want is to set up Google Voice so that the number I set up is forwarded to my Rogers Bold.
Looking for help from Canadians who have already been through this and have found a work around to the current us limitations of GV. - 07-22-2009, 11:49 AM #3
Yep... from what I understand, it won't let you sign up from a non-US IP.

You follow your link in the email that was sent to you. Register via the link, when presented choose a n area code then you will presented number choices, choose your number, then choose the phone numbers that you want GV to be ported to, select a pin number, Google will call your number to verify your cell or home number or were ever the number is that you gave. Call your new number to set up VM or you may to it from your GV sign in page on the web. Got to settings tab and play around with any settings that you want to change. I hope this helps I can’t say that the order is correct but should be pretty close.
I set mine up this am works great…!
I hope this helps..! - 07-24-2009, 02:54 PM

Thanks everyone for your comments.
I know that you need to spoof a US IP Address to sign up. I was hoping that someone with a rogers phone had figured a way around forwarding to a Canadian number (other than Magic Jack or other IP solutions).
I was reading that some people have been able to forward to a 403 area code. But I have not seen any recent comments on more Canadian area codes being accessible.
I keep my invite and wait for forwarding to a Canadian number. Hopefully this will happen soon. - 07-26-2009, 10:57 AM #8

I'm trying a kind of twisted combo.
I work at a busy homeless shelter and get a lot of calls that go to voicemail. I never make it through all my voicemails before I'm interrupted. Most of the calls are low priority but now and then it's the police or a hospital and I should get those asap. I have to listen to call after call of "do I have mail?" to get to the important ones. I have always wanted visual voicemail at work.
I set my desk phone to forward to google voice. My desk phone does not ring this way so I don't have the option to answer it although I can make the call ring on my cell phone. I don't have enough minutes in my plan to make this work so I decided to set up the Gizmo softphone on my office computer. I can answer it or check it out later on visual voicemail. Perfect for me!
