Default Found Rogers Blackberry Hamilton- Nov 3rd

Hi there,

I am actually not a blackberry user. I found a blackberry 9700 outside a campus building in early Nov. I printed up signs close to where I found it, and I got no replies. My mother suggested I take it to Campus police, which I did and they took my contact info. A month later (i had forgotten about this episode by this time, I received an email from the Campus police asking me to come by. I did so and they said no one had been in to claim it. I couldn't find the SD card, and the chip had been removed when I gave it in so they couldn't do anything about it. They asked me if I wanted it. THe elderly gentleman at the office said if I didn't take it, eventually it would end up in storage somewhere and be destroyed. He suggested I take it. I took it and I told my friends who suggested I give Rogers a call. After 2 hrs on the line, the woman said that they would look into it, but that it wouldn't be easy and it was unlikely successful. I asked her what would happen if they couldn't find anyone for it and she said that probably it would get refurbished and either sold or sent as a display model. I wasn't liking the sound of that. She said that I could keep it and that 'would be OK as well', as by now the old owner would likely have purchased a new phone. So that brings me today. I have this phone, and theoretically I could put my SIM card into this and it would work. I have no data plan though. And I don't really understand this BBM business. It has a PIN registered to it. What can I do to utilize all the features of this phone?

I do feel for the old owner, but I genuinely feel I did more than most would and I am not to interested in pursuing the old owner further.
Any input would be welcome! sorry for the long post.

Alan M.

if u put ur SIM in without a data plan you will be able to use the basic phone features like calling, camera and SMS/MMS. U can connect with wifi at home for example and you will be able to browse the internet. Mail and BBM(blackberrys messaging system) you will need to have a data plan so that your PIN # and emails get registered through BIS(Blackberry Internet Service).

Hope this helps

Welcome to the BB community
Pretty much, BBM is instant messaging just like AIM, GoogleTalk, MSN (Live), except it doesn't require you to sign in.
Although you do need a data plan to use BBM.
