Default Data usage with MSN and other applications?

I was out of the loop with my 8310 Curve and didn't get on the $30/6gb data plan. I don't use my Curve as much and opted for the $25/500mb data plan.

I'm just curious to hear from people who use MSN and how much data they're using a month?

    Thanks

I highly doubt you'll get anywhere close to 500mb on a BB edge device

Yup- you'll be just fine. If you wanna keep an eye on your usage for peice of mind you can download MiniMoni (it's not perfect but it'll give you an approximate), but quite frankly you won't hit it unless you're tethering...also, Rogers sends you a text message when you've hit 60% and 100% of your data bucket...so you'll know if you're near your limit.

I have the 6gb plan and I've only ever gone over 1gig while tethering like crazy (I took the VIA train 6 times in a month and refused to pay 10$ a train ride for shotty wifi when I have my BB!) So with just MSN, email, BBM and normal applications you won't even touch it.

blackberries are very efficient with data, they're not data hogs like the iphone. the only real way to use a lot of data on a blackberry is if u tether a lot. plus recently rogers put in some policies in effect to protect u. heres a copy and paste form their site explaining more:

Rogers gives you “worry free” data! Rogers helps you control data costs in 4 ways:

    1. Text messages that alert you when you have used 80% and 100% of your data bucket.
    2. Overage rates at only 3 cents per MB if you do go out of bucket for plans $25 and up –so going 100MB over your data bucket only costs $3!
    3. 3 months of “Unlimited Email & Browsing” when you sign up for a data plan. This gives you 3 full months to monitor your usage and make sure that you are on the right plan to get the best value.
    4. “Mobile Internet Cost Protection”. For the rare situations when people use more than their bucket of data they can still rest easy knowing they will never be charged more than $100 a month in data charges thanks to Rogers Mobile Internet Cost Protection*.

    ^^ that's what I was talking about!

And yeah, Blackberries are really efficient with Data. It's really a shame they don't make that clearer to Rogers Reps and on their website...I'd have gotten a BB ages ago if I'd known!

You can't- when you signed up for the 6gb plan you agreed to a 3 year data contract. I dunno if this means you can switch data plans as long as you HAVE data, but for the 5$ I think all the extra data is nice to have...if you tether. I, personally, tether like it's going out of style. Coffee shops, on the train, in the park...everywhere but school (and even then sometimes the connection doesn't work so I have to!) and home.

You can still switch to another data plan even though you signed a contract. As long as you have data that's all that they care about.

But I agree with what you said. For the extra few bucks its nice to have virtually unlimited data.

u might as well stick with the 6gb plan cuz the only lower one thats decent is $25 for 500mb. i think the other lower one is $15 for emails and 2mb data. so thats basically unlimited emails and data in an emergency only. i mean 2mb is nothing.

It's not available anymore...it was a promo plan that was only offered until the end of September. Your next best bet is the 1gb for 30$ plan...or the 30$ value pack with 500mb of data.
