Default Blackberry services 5$ add on?

I have the rogers 1GB plan with Unlimited texting, Extreme texting and my10.

I recently just bought a blackberry and called in to change the data for bbm enabled services. They told me I'd have to pay an extra 5$ because the bbm services are not compatible with my plan?

Has this happened to anyone else?

You probably have a standard data plan that isn't provisioned for BlackBerry data. There are two types of data, standard data (ie for iPhone, Windows Phone, Android) and then BlackBerry data, which is specially provisioned to allow your internet traffic to tunnel to RIM for access to things like e-mail and BBM.

Call Rogers, tell them you have a BlackBerry and need the data on your plan to be "BlackBerry data". There shouldn't be an extra charge for this.

Just call in and tell them you like to switch your iphone data plan to BB data plan. You shouldn't be charged for this. I've done it multiple times.

I'm assuming you have the $55 plan with 200 mins, 6pm, my10, unlim txt and 1GB.... its not that the blackberry one is more expensive, its just that all the promo plans were upped $5. The promo plan for both blackberries and other smartphones are all now $60. Id call retentions though, theyll probably be able to apply a $5 credit.

It's ridiculous that Rogers banned their agents from adding the ever so useful SOC code APN3CON from being added to people's accounts that requested it. I think it's been a year since I've added mine (in before the lock). It basically allowed users of the non-Blackberry data plan (so "smart phone" or "iPhone" data plan) to be able to use BIS-services. No flip flopping between plans, having to deal with the headache of switching whole plans/[...trailing huge rant redacted] when calling in to customer service each time you switched your smart phones.

You need a Blackberry data plan to have BIS account and then you can register your Blackberry PIN# with it to use BBM and other data services including Email.

Same thing happened to me.

The plans are upped by $5. Like lushpupp said, call retentions and POLITELY complain. They should be able to give you a credit.

It's worse actually, if you call in with changes and see you have the APN3CON code, they are requested to remove it.

So....
