Default BB TO IP4 questions.

I am thinking of getting a IP4 as I am getting bored with my Bold 9000. I have a few questions 1) what is the upgrade price on the IP4? 2) Do I need to change my plan or can I keep my BB plan?

1. depends on your account standing. They changed the HUP windows from 12 to 24 mos. now - under 'regular' conditions. Retentions sings a different tune once you say Telus offers the iP4 @ 'xx price with x plan'.

Also, this is directly in relation to your tenure. SO the more time that passes the more of a discount you'd get on the HUP price, obviously.

2. You have to get rid of the BB data plan to complete the transaction of upgrading to the iP4. *been there done that when the micro sim i got was not working; only after i switched to a BB plan! argh.

Anyways, HUP under the same plan with a change to 'iphone data'. Once you get the phone and the micro sim works, call in to switch to the BB plan again.

Data is data - don't let any of these clowns tell you otherwise.

I have an iP4 with Fido on the 6GB BIS data plan, and it works problem free. Just for processing their system does not allow any rep to proceed with a conflicting data plan.

So the above is key in the event you want to switch between devices, like me. The BB plan differs in such that it retains the BIS access point. the 'iphone data' as they call it does not have this access point.

Thanks for the info. I just didn't want to change my plan because it is an older one with more options and cheaper. My 2 years is up in Jan. I have 2 blackberry plans in my name right now one is mine and the other is the wife's. I will be into the 2nd year on mine Jan and the other one for the wife is just over a year on that one. Will have to call and see what they will say I guess.

I just went from my Bold 9700 to the iPhone 4 (loving the phone and not regretting the switch too by the way) and I didn't need to do anything.

I took the iPhone (bought it new and sealed) and a Micro-Sim to the Rogers store and they switched it over. I didn't need to change my plan. I had 150MB of data on the BlackBerry, and while I know I'll need more for the iPhone, I haven't called in to up the amount yet. I have full data access on my phone.

I'm not sure what the upgrade price is, but I thought it was just the 3-year price listed on the website ($159 or $269 depending on the GB of the phone you select).

^^ you didn't have to change anything since you bought it outright, not on a new term renewal. If he wants to HUP the system will not allow the 'bb plan' portion of his plan to sell it for him. Retentions or not, the request will not go through to my knowledge.

It works differently, and to complicate things, they are even pickier with the iP4's in particular.

Different HUP windows & policies for those wanting to HUP vs. someone going from a BB to a BB.

That's not correct ^. I'll explain why:

HUP Pricing is not based on what your plan is as long as on data devices phone +data > 45$ before tax.

Now the thing about having to switch plans is not true because I experienced this September 30th.

I wanted a Torch, and although I had upgraded 4 months earlier to a Bold 9700, I was eligible for hup pricing, ($159 -3 year) on an iPhone but not on a Torch.

Enters my sister and she wants an iPhone 4. She's eligible for hup pricing on the iPhone 4 and the blackberry torch.

We both had & continue to have the 6gb Blackberry Data Plan. So here comes our idea, I upgrade to the iPhone 4 and she upgrades to the Torch and everything is jolly.

So we do so, and the only time it was brought up was: "sir shall I switch your data plan to the iPhone one" and I responded no that's fine thank you. She was like ok, and everything went smoothly. Only inconvenience was I had to activate a micro sim, but my sister did one also, and I just didn't pop mine out of the full sim part.

So no, you don't have to switch anything.
