I am in the exact same situation. I upgraded under 3 months ago because my 8900 crapped out. I need this phone! I was in a Rogers the other day, played with it. Only one work can describe it ... Amazing.

I posted an ad on craiglist and kijiji for my 9780, hoping someone will pick it up for >250.

Was anyone successful for buying a no contract phone for under 549?

What about getting it on a really low monthly contract, and using it as a second line? Sort of like a lay away plan.

I did unlock it! Put it on C-list last night and now I am typing this on my new 9900. In total, it cost me 321. (549 +13%) - 300 for my 9780, charging pod and a couple of screen protectors.

I put it up and sold it within a day. I had about 15 hits and 10 of them offering 275 or higher
