- If you come to this thread just to say "people can use their phone like they want" you can chill cause we know that. This thread should be like the "you know you a bb addict when..." thread but you guys keep posting horse crap that doesn't matter.
now, my boss has a bb WE and he barley uses it for other than txt and calls. What a waste of 30 dollars. Its cool though cause I get to be the "expert" that helps him with the stuff he doesn't know about. I helped him d/l bbm 5.0 Friday. Now I'm a RIM spokesperson that tries to convert and enlighten people lol

Speaking of which, I know someone who owns a BB, but only uses it as a phone. It's an older model, the 8703e, but it's still capable of so much more than mere voice communication. I mean if all he wanted was a phone, he could have gotten some cheap prepaid thing.
I try to show him all sorts of apps and features that he could be taking advantage of, but he just ignores my efforts. Such conversations usually wind up with me sighing quiety and offering to be of service to him if he has any questions.
Any thoughts on what to do? I really think he's missing out.10-13-09 08:43 AMLike 0 - There are people now who just buy Blackberry for "the hype", since it's being very commercialised right now with that "Love you Berry" advert etc.
I have friends who buy Blackberrys just for texting, phoning and email. A friend said yesterday, "omg I love bbm" and I asked her when she got the Berry, she said just 2 months ago.
I have another friend who wants to invest in an Onyx, although she's the type who only texts, calls only. She has never gotten into the seriousness of any phone before, let alone a Blackberry.
But there are those people who use it for leisure, others, more seriously.
I would say I am somewhere between the two, I do take full advantage of it's features and then again, I have fun.

I have a friend who has had a BB since way before I got mine, and now I've had my Curve for a few weeks and I'm teaching her things she can do with her BB she never knew about!
I have a tendency to be a little...obsessive though.10-19-09 02:05 AMLike 0 - I like to see anybody with a BlackBerry no matter how they use it.
Sometimes people don't take full advantage of their device because there is no one around them to show them what's up with their BlackBerry. That's where us CrackBerry Addicts come in.
I love showing people new things on their BB. A lot of my family & friends go to me for help and I'm always happy to do so.10-20-09 05:34 AMLike 0 - All sorts of consumer electronics are "underused" when one simply looks at the device's complete capabilities (eg: notebooks, BluRay DVD players, mobile phones, etc). Why should it bother me how someone chooses to use a product they paid their own good money for? The carriers are all effective at training their CSRs to teach users how to use phones (whether BlackBerry or others). If the user elects to not take the provider up on said training it's up to them. This is a free country still
My Nano 5G can store addresses, calendar appointments and notes...but will I use those functions...probably not.
and I believe the OP was dead serious in his question...there was no hint of an 'lol' or sarcasm anywhere... hence the serious responses.
Me. I just love gadgets. Like someone else said, I got my berry a while after one of my work colleagues...but when I eventually got my first berry (which was probably 2 years ago) I knew more about it then they did... showin them how to update firmware and stuff...
Im' not the hardcore business type to utilise calendars and such...(my life is organised mess) but my berry still gets worked..Last edited by The Gift; 10-20-09 at 09:05 AM.

Soooooooooooooo, anyway... I have a "wow" moment when I come across a user without an email address set up, or who has never heard of BBM. But, I don't look down at them- on the contrary, I run to their aid and help them harness the power.
Most noteable such story- back at the end of the brief stint where I cheated on my BB and had an iPhone, I had to be on the phone with CrApple cust svc for about an hour one day when I was having huge probs with my iPhone. So during this time, I had to restart my iPhone a number of times, and reload the OS, etc etc, and there was a lot of dead air and waiting. So I started talking to the young lady in CS to pass the time. Turns out she had no ATT service where she was (hence no iPhone) and had a BB- she knew nothing about it. So while she was walking me through my iPhone headaches, I walked her through setting up her BB, email, bbm, and we became bbm buds.10-25-09 10:58 PMLike 0 - At first it can seem overwhelming if you've never had a "smart phone" before. But once you get to playing with it, it's very addictive. Just give them some time, they'll be off and running in no time. It's inevitable. It's why we are here. LOL10-25-09 11:16 PMLike 0
- I don't really mind. When I was saving for my BBerry and I would see people in lectures with them but hardly set up I would be a slight bit annoyed :P but now I have mine I don't really care what they do with theirs.

It seems to me that people in this part of the world go by the trend . That is , if the fashion was iPhones (Dubai) then everyone would be rocking an iPhone .
Sadly , that's how it is where I'm from . Needless to say , when I got my bold 9000 , people where asking me weirdly about what type of phone I'm using . They wouldn't even know what a blackberry was . Now we have kids carrying them .

- Two of my friends have bb-one is a pearl and she has had it for about 2 yrs, the other is a new pearl owner. Neither one knew anything about what the phone could even do. They used them for txting and phone calls. I have had my tour since Sept and was astounded that they knew so little. I introduced them to crackberry.com and we held weekly get togethers until they felt comfortable in exploring on their own. Now they download apps, themes, use the calendar, sync, do upgrades, txt, email, etc. Instead of getting upset over what they don't know-help them become addicts!! The water is warm-jump on in. Now we have long conversations on what blackberry will be ours next!12-19-09 12:55 PMLike 0
- it sad that some of us that want a data plan to take full advantage of their bb
but cant due to money issue12-22-09 09:45 PMLike 0 - I at one time was one of those who only used their Berry for texting/phone. I just didn't care about a cell phone a few years ago and half the time forgot it at home...ever since having kids, wife having to drive an hour away each way and seeing how their day is going, not to mention all the downtime I have with my job I finally use my BB to the fullest extent and rarely leaves my hip/pocket....I BBM, text, talk, email, surf the web, set up appointments, have all my dates and even learning new OS's and a slew of other things I would never even think about....oh and the cool apps to boot.
This was coming from a Pearl 8100 to a Bold 2 though, so....
Posted from my CrackBerry at wapforums.crackberry.com04-08-10 08:08 PMLike 0 - Some people have blackberrys and don't use them much. It makes me sad to know that a friend of mine has one of the new curves and doesn't even try to understand how to use all the features. Like, I mean, some people just use it for calls, they don't even bother setting up email, messages, social sites, internet, etc... Why even get a bb in the first place right? If you can afford to get a bb in the first place, you should be able to take advantage of the data plan features, right?
I'll agree people can spend their money any way they want but dcy4pres, didn't seem to be mad about it or acting snobby, probably just asking a question.
My answer is, people might buy a blackberry and not learn about the full potential of the device. Not all people have time or want to set aside the time to learn all the features. Whether they do or not, it's up to them and they can use their blackberry anyway they want.04-08-10 09:03 PMLike 0 - Some people have blackberrys and don't use them much. - I do think if you have the data plan you should take advantage of it. But if you just use your phone for calling and texting that's fine too. It really depends on the individual
