It depends on where you live and your daily commute. If you could (are willing) provide this info, there may be some people who live in your home town that might give you that info. You're going to get a bunch of bias answers to that question.

I have Sprint, but Verizon is top. Sprint is just a tad lower as I can get higher bars in my house with Verizon, but with Sprint it is just a tad lower. I don't like Verizon due to how they price things and had dealings in the past with them that I didn't like. Don't believe the 5 bars crap from AT&T, they don't reach as far as Verizon and Sprint.

I've traveled around using different carriers and Verizon has always had the most consistent, available, reliable service of them all...by a wide margin. HOWEVER...it is possible to live/work in a certain area that has bad coverage. Call Verizon and tell them. Tell them your considering switching carriers and ask when they think they can improve your service. It's all you can do.

I didn't think anyone had doubt about this when it comes to total coverage. It is Verizon. There are specific areas where one company has a better coverage than another but over the entire USA, Verizon wins hands down.
*** Also, consumer reports rates Verizon #1 in most of the major cities. Are when they are not #1 they are #2. ***Last edited by j7469; 06-29-2009 at 04:55 PM. Reason: Added comsumer report info

It could easily be one of many carriers, depending on where you live and travel. Many of the regional carriers have considerably better fringe coverage in some of the more rural areas than the national carriers. A previous poster has the right idea. Let us know where you live and travel and someone will surely be able to provide more accurate information than just tossing out a name.

I prefer sprint becuase of their prices. Sprint is available in all major metro areas as all the major carriers are, but when I go to any rural areas I do lose some coverage but I no that people I know on different carriers also do to. So for the price and the service I would go with sprint.

I didn't vote because I had Verizon for years and just changed to Sprint a month ago. I was always happy with my coverage compared to my non-Verizon friends on road trips and such (every year we go to a music conference in the NC mountains and I always have more consistent/better coverage). However I do know a pocket where my granny's cabin is that AT&T has a slightly better signal (still spotty because it's in the middle of nowhere). Sprint hasn't given me any trouble yet but I haven't been anywhere but major highways and metro areas so far.

I believe it all depends on where you live just like what all the others said. For me though it is Verizon. I live in Montana, and Sprint has nothing here, its all roaming. At&t is ok but you can't leave a town, and anyone who knows Montana the towns are few and far between.
I am orginally from Minnesota and in the northern part of the state At&t phones don't even work.
So it really does all depend on where you live and where you travel in the US. - 06-29-2009, 02:32 PM #16
Just depends on what features you want and where you live.

I'm in Grand Rapids, MI, and Verizon is the best. My roommate has Sprint, no issues. A friend that's visiting from Oregon has AT&T, and she's had 3? dropped calls while we've been gallivanting all around Michigan. However, her Verizon friends don't get coverage near her, while she gets 2-3 bars inside her house.
So... whereabout you using your phone?Scan the barcode for my Droid's PIN number. I recommend "Bar Code Scanner" since it seems to work real well.

I have T-Mobile but I believe that as far as area coverage, I feel that Verizon has more coverage than any other carrier. However, I would say T-Mobile is definitely close. On the other hand, when I get service, I almost always have great service and strong signals with T-Mobile. My friend has Verizon and he almost always has a signal, but the signal is rarely as strong as mine, even when in the same metro location as me.

In New England, Verizon is the best. I travel to my customers 3 days a week and have plotted them all on the coverage maps from all 4 carriers and the only carrier that has coverage at all customers is Verizon. Had Sprint for 10 years in Florida and when we moved into our house in NH, had zero coverage at my house. Verizon has 4 bars here, full 1XEV. Also looking at the major highways around New England, Verizon has it all covered. AT&T is almost there, but not quite. Sprint is about the same at AT&T and Tmo is just plain horrible for coverage.

I bought my first cell phone in 1984. A Motorola DynaTAC 8000X (anybody here even remember those?
). It was almost $4,000.00 as I recall...
Since that time I have by and large been a Verizon customer but over the past 3 or 4 years I've tried several month stints with AT&T as well as Sprint (trying to save money...). Each time I end up coming back to Verizon due to coverage, call quality and few if any dropped calls.
In fairness, if you live in or near a large metro area, I honestly don't think it matters which carrier you use. Where I always notice the difference is in those "in between places"- the smaller, more out of the way towns and less populated parts of the country. I have traveled extensively all over the US and by and large Verizon has almost always worked well anywhere I went regardless of it being a big city or a small, remote town. Coverage for AT&T and Sprint were marginal in most of those out-lying areas, if I could get any bars all.
The exception IMO is Europe. In my experience AT&T's coverage there trumps Verizon's. - 06-29-2009, 05:58 PM #25
I think Verizon does..but so many things effect it depending on where you live..I had AT&T and could barely get a signal in my apt. I have VZW now and am always at least 1X if not 1XEV with 2 or 3 bars..the minute I leave the parking lot its steady at 1XEV full bars..so it has alot to do with buildings and trees satallites etc.
