With the use of the service, the rights of the entire communications go to the company from Silicon Valley.
WhatsApp can commercialize all the content on all channels, even sell it in license without restriction.
The license also doesn't end until the user deletes or removes a message from the WhatsApp-network.
So far, these rights transfer is still limited to WhatsApp.

Copied the paragraphs Handelsblatt is referring to:

    5. User Status Submissions
    [...]
5B. [...] by submitting the Status Submissions to WhatsApp, you hereby grant WhatsApp a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, sublicenseable and transferable license to use, reproduce, distribute, prepare derivative works of, display, and perform the Status Submissions in connection with the WhatsApp Service and WhatsApp's (and its successor's) business, including without limitation for promoting and redistributing part or all of the WhatsApp Service (and derivative works thereof) in any media formats and through any media channels. You also hereby grant each subscriber to your status on the WhatsApp Service a non-exclusive license to access your Status Submissions through the Service. The foregoing license granted by you terminates once you remove or delete a Status Submission from the WhatsApp Service.

Considerring FB owns WA, what makes you think the TOS would not change accordingly?

Maybe that the CEO of whatsapp said there would be no changes for the user through the acquisition? Not that it wasn't foreseeable that they would break this promise, but it was given. And I doubt that this change would've come without the fb acquisition.

The CEO may have said that, but the owner has a different objective.

It would be nice, every once in a blue-moon, if we didn't have to be continuously reminded about the lack of character in people who run businesses, and how so many (particularly larger) businesses care only about profit and nothing else, and very little about the average citizen or user of their services and products.

I recall laughing at all the articles that came out of the usual places (Wall Street and various publications that are tied into corporate interests - meaning most of them here in the USA these days) shortly after the acquisition announcement that gushed and gushed about how "user focused" and "privacy focused" these "saviours" from WhatsApp are, and how their ideals are so pure and they wouldn't compromise all their ideals just because of the FB acquisition, and yadda yadda yadda.

    Same as it ever was.

Hard to understand why we're not all bitter cynics at this point.
