LOL this should be fun...You can gain an appreciation as to why I hate the 8900...
1. Motorola Startec w/extended (fat) battery
2. Clearnet phone (anyone remember those? Made by sony and branded as clearnet with those cricket ringtones)
3. Ericsson t51 - awesome phone.. But couldn't do sms lol
4. Nokia 3525 (or something like that..dumbphone)
5. Motorola v635i (Used an axim for my data / pda needs)
6. 8320 - best build quality to date, +2yrs and still my backup.
7. 8900 #1 - defective unit (trackball) broke after days.
8. 8900 #2 - (replacement) defective casing loose everywhere felt like I was on a flight with turbulence when typing. Lasted 1 day.
9. 8900 #3 - (replacement) missing a nice piece of the bezel and a couple of the berries on the battery cover fell off. Almost looked like someone bit it off in frustration.
10. 8900 #4 - loose keys and cover with an unholy cracking sound when clicking. Broke after 2 weeks.
11. 8900 #5 - top black piece with blackberry logo loose, eventually fell off, exposing screen which cracked within an hour. (At this point offered a dumbphone instead of a BB which I refused- return to 8320)
12. 9700 - so far so good. Got lucky with a good build and no issues so far.

I had a handful of nokia, kyrocera, motorola, & samsung dumbphones (don't even remember the models) from 1999 - 2007. In early 2007 I got a Sidekick 3, then a Sidekick LX, then a Sidekick LX 09. Last month I picked up a BB 9700.
my last 3 smartphones before my first Blackberry would have been
HTC Touch
HTC 5800
UTStarcom 6700
My first Smart phone was the Audiovox thera, I really wish I could find a opensource OS to put on that phone, it had such a large screen and was a great size, it was my first "netbook" that phone and a IR keyboard, heck I got 2 of them 1 hooked up to my phone network and one as a netbook
Nokia 6000 something
Motorola Pebl
LG Env2
Current: Blackberry Curve 8530
I'm only 21 and have had a cell phone since I was 16. It disturbs me how quickly I get bored with my phones. I'm hoping the BB will keep me interested for a couple few years. Loving it so far...
HTC S620/ T-Mobile Dash (from WM5, to 6, to 6.1, and to various and amazing cooked ROMs of 6.1). Amazing smartphone, and fairly stable. Exchange was great on it, too.
HTC TyTN/ AT&T 8525
Motorla MPX220 (Windows Mobile 2003 2nd edition I believe) First smartphone, too.
