I notice this too all the time, like in this earnings article from the BBC:

Part of the problem is that BlackBerry stuck to that form factor for too long and ignored that the smartphone market around them was changing beyond recognition. The phones in the photo you linked too aren't nearly 10 years all at all, they're 5 years old.

The more recent problem is that BlackBerry didn't do enough to make the world see that their phones since 2013 aren't like that anymore. Making new "old" BlackBerry's like the 9720 and re-manufacturing the 9900 hasn't helped. Then along will come the "Classic".... which looks like it came straight out of 2011. :/

It reinforces the preconception in the average person's mind that BlackBerrys haven't moved on from 2009.
