I am a certifiable independent geek and obviously do not own an iPad and very critical of the product. (I do have an iMac, MacBook Pro and iPhone3GS(no longer in use)).
I also share a lot with the 'social elite' group but I do not own an iPad.
I'd probably fall into the "Geek with reality-distortion-field suppressor" category.
I love tech and gadgets - but despite being a Mac user, don't expect much love from me related to the introduction of products with various shortcomings. Or at least, I'll be calling them out on it.
But hey, if a particular device does what you need it to and you're happy with it, who am I to try and dissuade someone from feeling good about their purchase.
