My cousin recently gave me an Android phone to rootkit. He says he found it laying on the ground, but had no luck unlocking it. The phone has a bad ESN/MEID/IMEI, so I'm pretty sure it's been reported lost or stolen. I doubt my cousin stole it. He's a *********, but not THAT much of a *********, so I believe him when he says he found it on the ground.

I'm an ethical person and would like to try to return the phone to its rightful owner. The phone's been wiped. Any idea on how I'd find its true owner?

If you find out what carrier it is (on SIM card) then return it to that company. They should call the owner

Thanks guys. I'll try contacting the carrier. My cousin's going to be pissed, but you can't put a price on doing the right thing.

Returning it is a lot better than getting charged by an Anti-Fencing law even if you had no ill intentions

Not sure why you would want to find an Android's owner...probably doesn't want the attention.
Just kidding, you're doing the right thing.
    Cheers

You want a usable phone, not a micro-tablet on wifi...

Return it, do the right thing. That's been asked of us for thousands of years already, whether it's a donkey or a Droid...

Thou shalt not see thy brother's ox or his sheep go astray, and hide thyself from them: thou shalt in any case bring them again unto thy brother. And if thy brother be not nigh unto thee, or if thou know him not, then thou shalt bring it unto thine own house, and it shall be with thee until thy brother seek after it, and thou shalt restore it to him again. -Deuteronomy 22:1,2 (Shared from e-Mmanuel for BB10)

So that phone went "astray", LOL :-)
