Got pulled over for...
..my tinted windows. I have 15% all the way around, except on the windshield of course, and was pulled over by a cop on the highway having nothing better to do apparently.
I was given a waivable ticket, have 10 days to remove them and get it signed and waived. Wow.....what a great criminal-free act of kindness: pull someone over for tinted windows, or actually go help someone who needs a 911 call right now.
I was driving home from school and got pulled over on the highway. Said my tints were illegal, wrote me up, and then continued to say my Tassle (from my graduation hat) was illegal because it was dangling from my mirror. OK serious? WHO DOESNT have something like that dangling. He continued to say my taillight covers were illegal, OK uhm, WHO DOESNT have tail light covers anymore? I see them everywhere, how are they illegal? I know the 500-ft rule and the reflector law, they are legit. Thx bud.
I told him that everytime I see a car with tinted windows ill be calling him, he didnt like that too much, but its the principal that counts to me.
So oh well, we'll see if after signed it is on my driving record or not, and if not, im going to buy tinted windows again and put them on.
Comments? Sry just had to rage lol - 12-12-2008, 04:12 PM #3
That's pretty funny. I have a similar story I live in vegas and I have very dark tinted windows but I have never been stopped. So I went to california and in california I was stopped by a police officer for having my windows tinted and he gave me a ticket. He said I had to get them removed and show california that I had them off. I found no point in that since I live in vegas. He said after I prove to califonia that I had taken them off if I wanted, I could put them back on when I go back home. Wierd how things like that matter. O well.

I don't think tinted windows would count as a moving violation so it shouldn't go on your record. Sucks though. I have 5% all way around except windshield and luckily havnt been pulled over yet. I'm an emt so I'm hoping the day it does happen the cop will be cool with me and let me off.

Or you could maybe follow what the law says, since you can't just ignore laws you don't like? "Everybody else is doing it" is not a valid legal defense.
Obviously the police can't ticket everyone for it. If there had been a 911 call I'm sure the officer would have dropped you like a hot potato.
Did you give the officer some attitude? That's never a smart idea. Don't argue on the side of the road, argue in court or with court officials. You won't win a roadside argument.

************ Thank You **************
My family/ in-law family are law enforcement and they stop ALL illegal vehicles from tints, noise pollution, etc etc etc
Do not joke about any issues concerning 911; it shows your immaturity.

Heh, apparently that cop has to re-read Article 4, Section 1 of the Constitution (the Full Faith and Credit Clause). Considering that Nevada allows tint on all windows other than the windshield, the CA cop has no right to ticket you since your car is registered and tagged as a Nevada vehicle. He may not know that NV law allows tinted front-seat windows, but you have a good case to get the ticket dropped if you fight it in CA court.

Hey I feel ya I got pulled over and haressard because my sterio lights were blue the cop drove beside me for 10 miles I knew he was thinking of something just because I drive a low rider. Then he asked if I had any guns, knives, (which are legal for me to carry) then got stupid with explosives, rocket launchers now I was in a geo tracker rag top slammed legal everything and this cop held me up for 30 Minutes. Lucky me I hit record on my camcorder when I saw the lights come on, went to his pricint showed the chief and told them I wouldn't press charges if they fired that cop. I got to watch the young punk turn in his badge. I love knowing the law.
Ofcourse this only works if you was in the right and your car is legal.

Put yourself in the officer's shoes for a minute and look at it from his / her perspective .
If you pull someone over for a traffic violation and are walking up to the driver's side window...would you not want to see who's behind the wheel and where their hands are?
Or is it better to have tinted side windows because it looks cool...and screw the officer's safety ( and piece of mind ) that the person they have pulled over isn't holding a gun and just waiting for the officer to get close enough.
It's the law for a reason and whining about it ain't gonna change it.

I know the chief and got several friends in the right places. Harassment by a law officer if your doing nothing wrong is a violation of their rules. Also most cities the cops cannot run over 55 in persuit of a criminal, they have to turn it over to the highway patrol. Plus with the video and all the crap the cop brought up and no real reason for pulling over other than my sterio lights were blue... And by the way this wasn't the first cop I got in trouble for haressment. Just because the driver is in a lowrider is not propable cause. Lowriders are legal in mississippi

So no review board at all...which would be standard procedure ?
Or are you talking a small town? The Chief hires and fires?

Small town.....if you blink and doin 50 you'll miss the town. The chief pretty much runs the show. If they arrest someone he knows and he is a good mood, he let's the dude go and the paperwork disappears. Now my home town is bigger it took 5 turn ins on a cop for haressament and they just transferred him to another department. That cop got to harassing me and a friend of mine so bad my friend went to his house and beat him up. My friend got fined but not near the charge as it would of been if the cop would been in uniform.

I was pulled over once for, and I quote, "Failure to yield a stop sign". How exactly does one yield a stop sign when you are SUPPOSED TO STOP (which, naturally, I did)?! I was also given a ticket for supposedly not wearing a seat belt. My brother was in the car as a witness to both, as we were going home from having dinner, and attested to this when I went to fight the ticket...
I won.
The clerk that helped me even said the ticket made no sense, and she also said I had three safety nets regarding the belt ticket - 1.) my belts are black and I was wearing a black coat, 2.) I had a witness with a sworn statement, and 3.) it was night-time, so the cop could have mistaken me for not wearing one. WIN!
As far as the ticket for tinted windows... I'm all for tinted windows, but there is a legal limit as to how far they can be tinted, and it varies by state. I'd say get some backup before you fight the ticket; if all else fails, just pay it and move on. It's worth the what, 100 bucks you pay now vs the however-much to "un-tint" them. No matter what mods you have made to your vehicle, you don't always have the ultimate say on what stays and what goes -- the law books do. Sucks, that's for sure -- if I had my way, my cobalt's tailpipe would be shooting purple flames

Last year I was issued a ticket by a very young county mountie in a rural part of the state. He cited me for doing 42 in a 30 only this township had no 30 MPH zones. Justice shook his head and threw the case out. I am over 60, drive a standard car (Altima), no tinted windows or the like. No reason for the deputy to hassle me. Just very poor training IMHO. I am guessing the originator of this thread is young and this combined with the windows and "low rider" look compelled the cop to "get him". Not sure that is good police work.

Yeah it is a sacrifice we make lowering our rides to look good attracts unwanted police attention. But we all are not young I will be 28 in a few hours. Been lowriding for 12 years now

I'm not retarded for one, I know not to give an officer attitude, that's common sense but thanks for insulting my intelligence?
And I live in Michigan.
And whoever posted 2nd, it's not whining for one. If you owned a half-decent car you'd understand. But obviously not.
But anyway, I drive an 03 durango with two tinted windows. IMO thats not near "drawing attention" to myself. Why not go catch some guy speeding and who could possibly ruin someones life. I guess not...Last edited by fuller45; 12-12-2008 at 11:53 PM.

Well I have a gun permit and keep a beretta .32 on me most all the time. But even if I didn't have the permit in my state we are allowed to have a gun in our vehicle. I don't know what or where that kid was from but he must of been from some other state. Ofcourse half the cops around mississippi never passed police academy. Too many small towns and boonies down here.

Once for excessive noise. Kind of hard to be quiet when you got 4 12's in a truck!

And again for doing 100mph in a 65 on the freeway. Man I sure hate unmarked cars!
