Run the latest apps/games on rooted 4869/6149
Hey guys,
So as many of you know, you can't run games compiled with NDK 2.0+ on 4869/6149.
But, you are rooted, so you can do anything!
So here's how:
1. Grab a copy of libbps.so.3 * and stick it on your tablet.
2. Add this line to your ~/start.sh
Now you can run any game on your tablet!Code:ln -sPf /accounts/devuser/libbps.so.3 /base/usr/lib/libbps.so.3
If you have any questions about it, leave a comment.
* If you have the NDK installed, you can find this file at ~/bbndk-2.1.0/target/qnx6/armle-v7/usr/lib/libbps.so.3
Otherwise, download here.Thanked by 4:antiRIM (10-30-2012), ismael280373 (11-08-2012), SifJar (10-30-2012), WeAreNotAlone (11-15-2012)

Not rooted myself but great to know you are back on the root scene

Great work xsacha!!
Do RMA send you new playbook as in with 1.x? Then I may get my hands on root I guess.. But unlikely right? - 10-30-2012, 09:29 AM #3

Just wondering if there's anyone here with a rooted tablet that is benefiting from this.
Anything you want me to work on next?
Right now I'm working on stable USB Host/Slave(OTG) (Auto-toggling). - 10-30-2012, 11:18 AM

We already have Skype on PB.
Skypekit doesn't allow skype video calls unless you use a supported desktop OS (you aren't allowed to make a client for mobile platforms), AFAIK. - 10-30-2012, 06:52 PM #7
Re: Run the latest apps/games on rooted 4869/6149
I tried that , angry birds space still closes... havent tried other apps/games yet...
edit:
It works, smt wrong with my start.sh as it is not run. I had to run it through ssh and then angry birds work
Will figure it out how to run at boot correctly...thnx

Re: Run the latest apps/games on rooted 4869/6149
Mine is working at startup.
I am linking it from my latest.bin mount though. Not sure if it works if the file is by itself (without the other libs around it), can you check?
Anyway, you should be able to run all the apps from 2.1.0.1088 directly from 4869/6149 now
. Maybe not Android. It would be nice if someone could give me a list of apps not working on 4869/6149.
I would prefer to make a hybrid OS rather than load up the full 2.1.0.1032. - 10-30-2012, 08:10 PM #9
Re: Run the latest apps/games on rooted 4869/6149
How do you link it from latest.bin?
And yes it works alone as soon as I run it from Dingleberry through ssh command ''sh start.sh''
Would I be able to run also sys.apps from 1088? Like contacts, mess, appworld, youtube...and so on?
edit:
I added that line to startup.sh (the one for root on boot). Now after reboot it works ...
edit2:
What would be advantage of having hybrid os instead of full load latest???Last edited by joannesbenedek; 10-30-2012 at 08:22 PM.

Re: Run the latest apps/games on rooted 4869/6149
Awesome. Well yes you should be able to run sys.apps, but only the ones that have the backends available (eg. probably not contacts, android).
I mean linked to your mounted latest.bin rather than just a single libbps.so.3 file? - 10-30-2012, 10:33 PM #12
Re: Run the latest apps/games on rooted 4869/6149
I have a rooted PB and am interested in integrating the latest PB features. I would like to see ad-hoc wifi connections for hotel rooms and tethering etc.
Also would like to update my .bar files to the latest versions for improved functionality. I am currently running a hybrid os: rooted .6149 core os within a full .7111 install.

Using this trick you can probably update most of the apps to 2.1 BullMarket.

Re: Run the latest apps/games on rooted 4869/6149
Yep.
By the way, I found out how to mount BB10 firmware if anyone is interested. The new filesystem is 'rcfs'.
So, mount -t rcfs R9.bin mnt/Thanked by 2:BullMarket (10-31-2012), SifJar (10-31-2012)

Re: Run the latest apps/games on rooted 4869/6149
I have been trying to mount an image from the BB10 bars for sometime now which is rcfs but my Ubuntu mount command doesn't seem to support it and I can't seem to find more info on this..

BB10 seems to mount it I guess cos the .bar seems to mention a mount command to do it..
So is it a special file system by QNX?
Any ideas?Last edited by GreyGhostRos; 10-31-2012 at 01:12 AM.

Re: Run the latest apps/games on rooted 4869/6149
rcfs is a brand new filesystem for QNX8 (BB10).
You have to get the fs-rcfs.so from /proc/boot of a BB10 install (Playbook or Dev Alpha). - 10-31-2012, 08:19 AM #18

Re: Run the latest apps/games on rooted 4869/6149
Alright...i performed the NDK hack very easy...using WinSCP i put the libbps.so.3 file in the devuser directory, and modified the start.sh by adding the code and saving the file. Playbook has now rebooted fine.
I am loading my custom firmware folder for Dingleberry...however I notice that some of the 2.1 bar files are patch files. So to update the apps correctly, do i need to go back to each previous OS release and located the large pre-patch bars and load them and the patch bars?
Finally, I was planning on just loading the bar files via Dingleberry's custom firmware upgrade and leave my .6149 core in place. Sound like the right approach?

Re: Run the latest apps/games on rooted 4869/6149
Alright...i am doing something wrong. After performing the hack, I decided to test upgrading by loading the 2.1 browser by sideloading the file browser-2.1.0.640-nto+armle-v7+signed.bar into the PB. Performed a reboot, and now the browser just opens and hangs with no functionality. Please share your thoughts...Cheers!

Re: Run the latest apps/games on rooted 4869/6149
Well, some apps require more than that. Actually I had done same thing, but also I loaded appworld and youtube apps from 1088. None of them worked so I had to link more files to make them work. I have now youtube and appworld running on 4869 and apps are from 1088. I still didnt fix browser, but I'll do it soon, just dont have time. When ready I'll post all steps required. (side note, to get youtube working all you need is to link air from 1088 to 4869...but ofc you need 1088.bin file first)
