Default Is it possible? GPS update rate and Camera FPS

Is it possible to adjust the GPS update rate to a faster rate?

Might it be possible to push the camera FPS higher? Potentially past 120hz or more, perhaps with a lowering of quality.

Figured I would ask since we used to be able to adjust the GPS refresh rate on Windows Mobile through registry edits, wondered if it would be possible on the Playbook. As for the camera, well once I thought about adjusting refresh rate I thought of a high speed camera ability, and well, thats just awesome (heck It might just be something to get the blogs to write something good about the Playbook since no other device does high speed photography).

Really just thinking outloud.

For sure, you can modify GPS update rates.

Camera rates is a bit hit and miss. It depends if hardware supports > 60Hz (some hardware doesn't expose > 60Hz even at low resolutions!)

Gotchya. Kinda hoped FPS might be able to be adjusted in the same way as GPS Refresh.

I'm assuming adjusting the GPS refresh will require me figuring out how to script? Not unwilling, just going to be starting from scratch learning how.

Thanks for the response xsacha

The script is the easy part.
If you find the firmware file or pps settings file that the GPS rate is contained in, please post it in the forum and someone (like me) may help you write a script to do this.

Ok, have to admit my ignorance on this part.

To be honest, I don't even know what I'm looking for, nor how to view or edit it when I find it. Looked in the PPS folder but cannot open the files.

If anybody wants to help a UNIX noob out here is your chance! LOL

Google will help you here.
Basically you want to learn how to use: cd, ls, grep, cat

Try:
grep -ri gps /pps

This finds all (-r) occurrences of 'gps' in /pps but case insensitive (-i)

working on it, I'll see what I can find.

Right now, nothing in /pps other than a BT connection to an old GPS reciever I tried. Digging around to see if there is anything else.

Thanks for the help xsacha, this should get me started.

Hey, I just had a quick grep of /etc and it looks like what you might want is in:
/etc/system/config/location/eeconfig.txt
/etc/system/config/location/glconfig.txt

Can you confirm that the values you want to change are in there?
