well you can upload any os but playbook will reject anything below 7111. Then, I have not tried CFW upload yet as there is none for now but it will be again rejected by playbook as soon as it will realize it is not signed...that is what I think will happen with CFW. But it is worthy to try it as cfp doesnt check if the os is signed i think. xsacha know much more about this. myabe he could answer it better

I think you have to open a Command Prompt as an administrator and start the program from there.

    1) Open CMD. (Search for it in Windows start menu search, right-click it and "open as administrator")
    2) Just drag the file and drop it in the Command Prompt window and press return.

But I would also like some kind of tutorial as I am buying another playbook and would like to root it. Any help?

1)Where can I get the rootable firmwares?
2)The script for USB Host function?
3)Will I have to edit the firmware for the root?
    4)Precautions?

    Thanks in advance.

    ok.

    1)opened cmd as admin
    2)copied cfp in system32 folder
    3)typed cfp.exe in cmd box
4)got to see the wall of text and googeled "usbportmapper.exe help" like it said at the end
5)found this Download RIM CFP loader + comand
    (explanation of the commands)

sorry if its quite obvious but what do i have to do next?

    thx

Rooted PB - Dreaded red LED wink

    Shows where to get firmwares.

Dingle 3.3 has the USB script you want and will load it.

put cfp.exe and your firmware on desktop (I used 4869)

    open cmd

    cd desktop

    cfp load (firmware_name.signed)

    Done.

kk so lemme get this straight...
    Copy CFP.exe to desktop
    Run CMD as Admin
    Type "cd desktop"
    press enter
Type "cfp load ("qcfm.os.com.qnx.coreos.qcfm.os.sdk.4869.79475.si gned.bar" or is it "qcfm.os.com.qnx.coreos.qcfm.os.sdk.4869.79475.sig ned" - I have discovered that file buy turning the 1st one into a Rar file from a Bar file then extracting it's contents.-)

Question: How will the app know which playbook to send it to? What do I need to do?

It'll just pick the first Playbook it sees on USB. It does this automatically.

Everyone, a big thanks for all the info! But I have to ask, has anyone actually had any luck avoiding the auto-update on first boot after a flash?

I've been able to flash any bundle of the OS I want but no dice avoiding the auto-update. Heck, when using some commands, cfp has even been teasing me, closing the first-run app, waiting 2 seconds and then rebooting the PlayBook. Thanks!

There is no auto update there will be a reminder for you to update but there is no auto update unless you already updated to the version... which is a bummer...

I tried that but it seems to be wrong so do this: turn into RAR file and then uxtract the signed file then use that one...

Thats what happened to me when i tried to downgrade from 7971 and 358 o/s's. Well you have to do it before you boot up your playbook for the first time.

I bought a fresh playbook and I have flashed the firmware and now cfp info confirms that I have: 2.0.0.4869.

I am scared to continue because it is asking to install software update everytime I turn it on.

What do I do next to prevent getting stuck on the unrootable firmware?

    Instructions I mentioned work guaranteed.

Complete the update. When it asks to "REBOOT" (does a 10 second count down), you must run:
    cfp resetqnxosregion
