[HOW-TO] Start to finish root, install android market
Ok everybod. I know people have been having issues at the last step on dingleberry ( to get root access) I've been on IRC and I have found out how to do it if you are having issues.
here goes:
Make sure your playbook is registered for os 2.0 here : https://bdsc.webapps.blackberry.com/...et20/register/
1. Backup your playbook if you need too
2. Disconnect it from the pc. Power it off.
3. Open up your desktop manager. Plug in your playbook.
4. A message will come up about problems connecting. Restore you playbook to the latest firmware. (dont worry, 2.0 is still jailbreakable)
5. Follow the instrustions on your playbook. it should be setting you up as a brand spanking new playbook.
6. Connect to Wifi, it should ask you to update to software 2.0.
7. When you have completed the setup and are at the playbook desktop you are ready to use dingleberry.
8. Download dingleberry at: Dingleberry jailbreak
9. Follow the instructions within dingleberry. After your playbook has been restored and restarted, WAIT FOR Blackberry Desktop Software to detect your playbook. After it is connected, EXIT Desktop manager.
10. Return to dingleberry. at the top (above the playbook picture) click Dingle SSH.
11. Click connect.
12. You should get a command prompt window simply with a '#' character.
13. download winSCP : Downloading winscp435setup.exe :: WinSCP
14. Install it.
15. In your start menu go to winSCP/keytools/puttyGEN

Looks good - I wish this was available when I installed the marketplace last night.
One small issue I had when copying the system folder from google apps (step 34) was that WinSCP couldn't see it even though it was there. I just moved it to my desktop and, voila, WinSCP could see it from there. Weird but it worked.Thanked by:rurouniphana (12-08-2011)

If I'm not mistaken per the steps:
1) update software to 1.0.8 (or what ever version it is now)
2) Register for 2.0 beta (as playbook reboots it will download this)
3) Sideload launcher.....
Not gonna lie, it took me all day to finally get everything running. Do NOT load anything other than the launcher it can and WILL interfere with android - 12-09-2011, 02:12 PM #19
I stayed up until 12 midnite tinkering with this rooting crap and everytime I do something or make a change THEN run dingleberry it fails and disconnects. I am following the video guide as well as the stepbystep thread posted
Im no blonde so I know its not me

Jailbreak problems
I'm having a problem getting this to jailbreak
I downloaded and installed 2.0
Turned on wifi share
file share on
turned dev mode on
downloaded and launched dingleberry
clicked continue
got ip address & pass in dingleberry
click jailbreak
so it shows complete. press continue
so then I make a backup file of the settings.
done.. choose the backup file
restore the created dingleberry file
playbook restarts
turn on file share
wifi share
dev mode on
here is where i run into the problems
close the desktop software then open the dingle ssh
click connect... the window shows this
sh: /tmp/setuidgid: cannot execute - no such file or directory
jailbreak failed
$
am i missing files somewhere or missing a step?????? - 12-09-2011, 05:45 PM #22
I'm having problem with WinSCP. With "Shell: Default" I can log in. However, if I switch to "Shell: /tmp/setuidgid root /bin /sh"..
I get this error "Error skipping startup message. Your shell is probably incompatible with the application (BASH is recommended)." What am I missing? - 12-09-2011, 05:53 PM #25
my post from Jailbreak thread:
Ok, I started from the beginning after I "forgot device" in DM I opened Dingleberry, ran through it and backed up via DM. Restored and as soon as it came up to reboot to finish
I unplugged the USB and closed DM. I restarted the PB, put it in developer mode, put the USB cable back in (while Desktop Manager was closed), ran DingleSSH and was in root on Playbook and opened winSCP and am in.
The only step I had not done before was disconnecting as soon as it said too. So Im guessing this is the reason
