Rooting has not been accomplished since the official 2.0 release and even if you could Root, RIM blocked access to the Android Market Place/Google Play

Sideloading is your only option for any apps that are not present in the App World.
Small correction: You can't downgrade from anything higher than 2.0.0.7111 to anything lower than 2.0.0.7111. You can, for example, downgrade from 2.0.1.358 to 2.0.0.7111.UberCurrency - Free currency conversion app for PlayBook. - 05-14-2012, 11:32 PM #14
Do not know why do many people buy Playbooks with the expectation of runing Android directly to the Playbook..... If they did just a google search these threads would not be necessary.... If Android is so important...... there are a sea of them out there... maybe they should have bought one of those tablets......

... and to further address this issue, most of the Android Market apps will not even work well, or at all, on the PB. They were designed for phones and other types of tablets and devices.
To be sure, many of the Android bar 'side-load' apps, linked in the CB PB App forum, have functions to access 'phone' memory file managers.
