If you upgrade to the beta version, OS 2.1. Then can't you downgrade to any other is version by changing the OS file in the backed up archive.

Nope, you can downgrade to 2.0.0.7111
- 06-03-2012, 05:27 PM #11
you can dingle 2.0.1 (seen it done but not made public) but you`d have to question the logic of dingleing a beta, much like jailbreak on iOS, they never release the jailbreak until its a final OS, otherwise it gives them chance to fix it lol
Thorsten said ZED 10. deal with it

I bring you Good news!
(but dingleberry for 2.0.1 isn't released)
Chris Wade, public this tweet some hours ago:
Chris Wade @cmwdotme
Could be just me but I feel like the days are getting longer and the nights shorter. Yes yes people I know dingleberry, iEmu, Hosemino soon!
Yes! soon, this could be some weeks, or maybe days!
(Keep the calm & Smile)
The 2.0.x started a new level of security and get roots it's very different, but it's very possible that the way to dingleberry 2.0.x allows to dingleberry 2.1
Sorry for my bad English..

I believe the next version of Dingleberry scheduled to be released will NOT root any OS more recent than those already rooted, but WILL allow you to upgrade from an earlier rooted OS to a custom version of a newer OS, allowing you to keep root in the process. I am not 100% certain on this, but I think I remember reading about that.

I had this feature semi-working about 3 months ago but abandoned it when I lost root myself. That is, you could have root on latest firmware. This was working fine on 7111 but I still had to remove the script that permanently kills old firmware (in the latest one).
The method to recover root is too risky for me (I only have one device). - 06-08-2012, 07:05 AM #16
Is this method for recovering root public? (I'm thinking no, seeing as I haven't seen anything about it, but I'm curious...)
Also, what is "the script that permanently kills old firmware"? Is that part of RIM's protection against downgrading, or am I misunderstanding what you mean by that phrase?UberCurrency - Free currency conversion app for PlayBook. - 06-09-2012, 05:14 PM #17
... Okay so Xsacha has gone all his life "downgrading" then rooting why not just make a root without the downgrade. If downgrading is a need then we (not me just the smart people) need to find a way to access the files and edit them so that we can trick the OS into downgrading. e.g. find a way to access .signed file (not the .bar/.rar file) and edit the attributes every where needed fix it up save it and put it up into the playbook and hope for the best?

you need to sign that edited file with RIMs key which is not public but their private...so pb will not accept this edited os...Theres no way to downgrade (at least public way...I know that it is possible downgrade below 7111 but I dont know who can do it or how, I just know it is possible). So no root above 7111. It will probably stay like this. I doubt cmw will do it any soon and later it will be irrelavant as BB10 is coming...They should prepare to root that one.
