Question [Resolved] Avoid the first time update?

    Hi everybody!

Just wanted to know if it's possible to avoid the first time over-the-air update on my new PlayBook. I absolutely want to root my tablet... Can I reboot the slate by pressing the power button and the fast-forward button? And if it's impossible to stop the update, may I downgrade to 2.0.0.4869? I need the Android Market because I don't want to sideload an app each time I need one...

    Thanks in advance,
    William

EDIT: Finally got the solution from antiRIM and the xsacha's post! Thanks again!

Finally, I've read I'm able to skip the update by flashing the tablet using "cfp". However, I don't know where to get the 2.0.0.4689 firmware and cfp itself... Someone can help me?

    Thanks again,
    William

Another bump. Now, I found the firmware and CFP... Not sure if I need "usbportmapper.exe" and where to get it but I just want to make sure what I need to go. Am-I supposed to flash the CoreOS in the cmd with this command : "cfp load *signed.bar"? Am-I Ok?

    Thanks again,
    William

OK.. So take cfp.exe and copy it to your desktop. Next open START and search CMD.EXE and open it. Then type "cd desktop" (without the ""s). Then type cfp.exe, and cfp should launch. You don't need uspportmapper. As for the rest, follow xsacha's instructions as to what you need to type in.

Also for the firmware, you need to take the file you downloaded and rename it ".zip" at the end. Then extract the file and use the largest file within there. I think that's it, but if you need more help let me know.
Copy qcfm.os.com.qnx.coreos.qcfm.os.sdk.4869.79475.sign ed to the desktop then,
When you type in the OS it has to be - cfp load qcfm.os.com.qnx.coreos.qcfm.os.sdk.4869.79475.sign ed

Hey guys, new to the forums here and being that this is my first post i 'll just ask the question that'll get me started on installing the Android Market on my new PB.

    1) I recently bought a PB and when i power it on an go into settings, click about section it says current software is 2.01.358 but yet wants me to upate to 2.01.358 via Apllication Update icon on top right of screen. Can someone explain this to me because i don't know where to begin to start if I don't know what OS i'm "officially" on. Thanks in advance.

Your on official OS 2.0.1.358, the app update is a regional update for apps(music store ect.) So if you live in the US you get podcasts and what not.

In response to Anti-Rim, seeing that i was on 2.01.358 out of the box - would i be correct in saying that im not given an option to avoid the first update.

next question would be, 'where do i start and what do i do to expedite the process the easiest or hardest way possible'.

Im familiar with terminal on both the pc, and mac - but only have a pc to work with atm. Any videos links, tutorials would be much appreciated and thanks again for the timely response..

Default Sorry should've given more detail.

Sorry but since your playbook is already on 2.0.1.358, you are no longer able to root/jailbreak, nor are you able to downgrade to a OS that is rootable.

Nope, you need to be on 1.0 (factory install). Once you've updated to 2.0.1 AND rebooted in to it, you are not rootable.

You need to bypass the boot in to 2.0.1 (with instructions mentioned earlier).
