Zinio App Broken?
I recently downloaded the Playbook app after receiving the $25 credit. The problem I'm experiencing is the, "Shop" tab at the top is grey, I can't click on it and my library is empty. I've tried logging in and out many times, still broken; reinstalling the app, still broken; resetting the network connection on the Playbook and restarting my modem; connecting through a proxy; and resetting my password and email, still broken. I tried loading the app on my second Playbook and surprise surprise, still broken.

I doubt it's my account as I can log in to the website just fine and even subscribed to a magazine, but the app will not let me browse the Shop.
Has anyone else experienced this problem with the Playbook app? I REALLY want to use this but it's not working for me. - 04-05-2012, 09:19 PM #2
if you havent tried yet click you gear icon (for playbook settings) - security - application permissions - scroll down down zinio - click and make sure its set to allow then try doin the good ol 3 button hard reset on your playbook ( power + vol up + vol down and hold for 15-30 seconds)
dont know if itll really help or not but seems to be one of the only things left to try that you havent listed yet.
as i can tell the only attempts to fix zinio issues are
uninstall/reinstall
application permissions (making sure they are set to allow)
hard resets of playbook
and
signing out/back in to zinio app
other than that i havent seen or heard of many other fixes for anything zinio related - 04-05-2012, 09:23 PM

Thanks but,
Yeah, I've tried all those things already, and still isn't working at all. It's really starting to get annoying.

yea i have my own problem with zinio not working 100% and ive tried all my own suggestions also.
maybe your international store setting is not set to where you are? i noticed when i set mine to another country besides USA my zinio app would just crash and/or freeze on every load of the app.

It's because RIM feels obliged to spread the US age rating (or its own?) around the world. Playboy is for some reason rated as 'mature' thus not allowed on the PlayBook. It would make it necessary to actually validate the users age which would be a expensive and country specific process it seems.
"Are mature titles available through the app?
We would like to correct a tweet from earlier this week which was posted in error. Out of respect for the diverse PlayBook customer base, Adult content is not available on this platform (Playboy, for instance). However, we have received reports that some "PG-13" content (such as MAXIM) was not intitially available. That has been corrected and those titles should now be viewable in your library."

The user torches had the same problem: Zinio "Shop" tab greyed out
Since no solution was found in that thread, I guess contacting Zinio is the best option. - 04-06-2012, 04:24 AM #11
Just tried mine: works fine. Where are you? Are you in the States? Have you contacted Zinio customer(sic) service? Please let us know how this goes.

In the settings for the Zinio app, there is a "Help" section. In this section is "Troubleshooting". I just found a topic: "I'm getting a blank screen when I open the Zinio app".
It says: "The app might have been installed incorrectly. Delete the app, restart your device and then reinstall the app from the Android Marketplace."
I guess the settings info hasn't been modified for the Playbook. Try to delete the app, reboot your Playbook and then reinstall it. Let me know if it works and good luck.
Also: Are you bridged or on wifi. Won't work with bridge, only wifi. Try signing out and then back in as well.Last edited by jamesharmeling; 04-06-2012 at 10:49 AM. Reason: New Info from the forums:

This app has a bunch of problems...
I changed my pw while the app was signed in, from then on I could never sign in again, it kept reporting incorrect pw even though it was correct and works on the website.
I had to delete the app and reinstall to get that to work.
One of the free magazines they offer never downloads past 90% (I'm not the only one to report this).
I've gotten the app to hang several times...My website http://papped.webatu.com - 04-06-2012, 01:14 PM #16
If this is the Revolution Digital Interactive magazine, it will finish after a long while (not sure how long exactly, as I left my Playbook downloading it overnight). Anyway, it has a lot of big video files. My guess is that the status bar only accounts for the number of pages downloaded and not media files in the magazine, which is considered the last 5-10%, even if the media files are much, much larger in file size than the pages.

I've never had it hang before, and the free magazines seemed to download at a steady speed the whole way through. I had it working the very first time I started it, and I was able to download the free samples, but after that it just went downhill.
I just received a reply email from support and they seem to be aware of the problems that we are having.

Sorry misunderstood. I have notice the app is buggy and not user friendly I still have not figured ou how to resize the pages so I can actually read the articles. Sucks because I want to support the devs that support the playbook but it has been rough so far

i,m pretty sure in the email it said the app was not able to do the purchase and apply the credit. I made my purchase on the pc and it was instantly available on the playbook.
