Pretty interesting, I gotta admit. I'm in, I'll be prepping up the draft tonight, as I've been incredibly anxious for Skype to become available on the best and truest professional-grade tablet in the industry.

I do agree though with the words of caution aired by a couple people. If I may make the tiny suggestion, why specifically february 1st? We aren't guaranteed to have OS 2.0 on the 1st of february, and we never know what things RIM may have worked out with Skype behind the scenes that they're not ready to reveal to us just yet (just to really hold in the surprise).

What if this was held over until say the 1st of March? For sure we'd have OS 2.0 by then, and any apps that were planned for that release would be made public either the same day as the launch or very shortly thereafter. Just throwing the idea out there, being a bit optimistic for a surprise from RIM and Skype, but otherwise in massive support of this.

Wow - what a remarkable amount of naivete on display. Microsoft wants to acquire RIM's network and patents, not prop up the company. I would hope people know that Skype's CEO is just a figure head now. It wasn't designed for PB previously because it was viewed as a failed venture with no marketshare, and the fact that RIM developed their own competing application. It will be months before any analyst decides the PB has any traction in the market. My bet is the only way that you will ever see skype on a Playbook is if RIM privately sells a stake in the company (or a bunch of patents) to Microsoft. Good luck but my bet is you will be disappointed....

Your argument would ,d a lot more water except for a couple of things.

1. If it were purely a numbers thing the why did Skype only create a version for the Verizon Blackberry models when worldwide Rim has ~70 million subscribers. Why not make it available for all BB users. Apparently numbers don't have as much to do with it as it first looks. Heck they even developed a version for the Palm Pre with it's tiny market share, and an even smaller number than that by limiting it to Verizon only.


2. If it was because of the PB Video Chat app, then why did they bother with an Apple version since it also has it's own app, Facetime.

There is also a human operating another account on twitter with skype in the name. I forgot what it was. Someone could search for it as I'm busy setting up this tablet pc with linux mint 12.

PLEASE MAKE SURE TO DO THIS, it will only take a minute, and it will allow me to keep track of just how many people really sent in. Do you think we have to involve Alec first or we have to go for Skype directly?

I think we are in the dark here. We don't know if RIM did anything to approach Skype and request a version for the PlayBook. If they did this and have some kind of an agreement, the campaign will do no good.
Maybe no one from RIM is authorized to make an official statement, but I'm sure they can give us a hint and point us in the right direction.

If this situation is solely Skype's fault, I say "let's go public, let's go big"

I dont think microsoft are totally against a skype playbook app. They are just very busy integrating skype into the windows phone and xbox 360.
