So, as the title says, I'm looking for a remote desktop app to use with my Linux PC.
I've been looking in the Appworld but there seems to be only RD's available for Windows or MAC.

    Is there one for Linux?

    Thanks in advance.

Honestly I doubt it, remember that blackberry playbook don't have too many apps, very sad that a powerful machine couldn't compete on the market.

Umm...There is a splashtop streamer beta for ubuntu Linux, and there is also the app now called VNC which used to be bVNCFree(what I have). It works just fine with Linux (ubuntu at least), but it's no longer free apparently.

Do you mean you want to access your desktop GUI session remotely from your phone?

There are a few protocols that you can use, but VNC would be the best supported. I'll look tomorrow for you as I need to do the same, except I can get away with ssh for which there are plenty of apps.

Subscribed to this thread. I did have a crack at this a while ago without success, may have been because my bios didn't support wake up over Lan though. Maybe there's hope though.

Not from the phone... from the PlayBook.

Thank you. VNC claims it will work with LINUX. But i don't believe everything i read in the AppWorld...

Here i am answering to my own questions...

GOT IT TO WORKKKKKK! For free! This PlayBook thingy is a workhorse!

I'm running LINUX Mint 16 (or is it 15?...) and must have Vino installed.

Followed the instructions on this site but i'll put the steps to you:

    1- $ sudo apt-get install vino
    2- $ vino-preferences
    3- $ /usr/lib/vino/vino-server &
4- $ sudo netstat -pl | grep vino
5- don't close the terminal just yet...

Now, on the PlayBook, go to AppWorld and install IMT VNC
Open the app amd tap the tool button (settings) and fill the blanks:
Host: your computers ip, i.e. 192.168.x.y
    Port: 5900
Password: if you put it on vino earlier
Hit connect and you will get a message on the computer to allow the connection

    VOIL! Enjoy!

I am so excited that i came here to post and did NOT test it deeply.
All i can say is that it is a bit laggy and slow, the keyboard works, pinch to Zoom does not work (maybe a setting...).

Uh UHHHHHHH! (1:30 AM... bed time)

VNC, although free and popular, it's not the best protocol for remote desktop.

What are you really trying to achieve by using remote to your Linux machine?

    Thanks, g33kphr33k.

Actually, i'm not trying to achieve anything. Just looking for cool features/apps to use on the PlayBook.

I tried Accesstogo Remote before but couldn't get it to work. I may use LINUX but am not a geek.
