Quicken or Quickbooks?
When is Blackberry going to get serious accounting software like Quicken or Quickbooks? Isn't this supposed to be a business tablet? I used to own a Sony Clie with pocket quicken, the perfect companion to desktop quicken and I really miss it.

It took over a year for iPad to have a QuickBooks app of any value and even then debatable. It would be more likely an issue to taken up with Intuit. Have not tried to use their online version. I wonder if you search forum you may get an answer on how PB browser works with their online version. Lowfat Software had a great app for Windows Mobile 6.5 where is would sync all data with QB. They have considered moving into other OS, been a few months since I checked with them though.

Im not interested in the online version. I would rather not put my financial info online.

I doubt that will ever happen. Quickbooks is heavily Windows oriented...must be a mess of upgrade patches and bug fixes by now its been around since early Windows...not an easy port and not well suited for tablets if you ask me. It needs to be thrown away and respun from scratch. I kinda hate Quickbooks anyway - it really takes over your computer, bogs it down, and not intuitive at all, despite the name "Intuit". Its a very frustrating piece of S...oftware.
But kind of a necessary evil. What is the alternative? Nothing. I have been eyeing Freshbooks on line, but not sure yet.Last edited by blackjack93117; 10-07-2011 at 11:22 PM.

Im about to throw QB out anyway. Every "update" just makes standard features, email, tax forms, premium services that have to be paid for. Its a 200.00 checkbook for now. They disabled payroll because its a 2008 version. My CPA hates the idea of me moving my company off it, but it isnt paying to use it anymore. Im looking for alternatives. If they created a Playbook version that would be a giant step in their favor. But the other issues still loom.

Agreed. I purchased Pocket Quicken for my first smartphone, a BlackJack. One of only two apps(?) that I have ever purchased (Docs To Go being the other). At the time, I had to put my name on a waiting list and wait for the program to be written. It was very convenient to have. I also miss it.

I like Quicken Deluxe, which is only $50. I only upgrade ever few years. I'm still using 2009 version and before that I had 2005, but am about to ditch it for something else since I can't get it on my phone or Playbook. Right now I'm using two programs, Quicken for my computer and the other on my phone (Splash Money) -- I know it's crazy entering transactions twice, but I love all the Quicken features. Splash is ok, but you can't print checks from your desktop, which is what I do from Quicken.

The alternative to Quickbooks is Sage Peachtree Accounting. It's the other big player in the accounting world.

No. I was simply pointing out to blackjack that there is an alternative accounting package to Quickbooks. You are not likely to find a PlayBook counterpart, at least not on the same scale as either QB or PA.

They won't. Sorry to say. But i have a friend who works at Intuit, he says they have no plans for blackberry, they are VERY into Apple and are considering a Droid app... Just sayin.

Did you by any chance gave StateOfCash a try? We just released a new version which allows repetitive payments and export to Quicken which comes in handy if you have the Quicken program on your PC.
We would love to hear your opinion on this app. You can find more info on this thread or you can visit our website.
