Print to Go Install Errors
I've seen several people posting issues with installing Print to Go, but I haven't seen my specific issue. Google searches have turned up several network based issues with other devices, but nothing specific to this, so I figured I'd give it a shot here.
Installing Print to Go on my ASUS Windows 7 x64 laptop. It's returning three errors during the installation. The first two are "Operation could not be completed (error 0x00000002)" then the third is "Operation could not be completed (error 0x00000709). Double check the printer name and make sure the printer is connected to the network."
After clicking ok on the above, the installation completes, and reports success, but no PlayBook or Print to Go option is available when attempting to print from the laptop. The Print to go folder itself contains only .dll files.
I have tried the following: Deleting and reinstalling, repairing the installation, uninstalling then restarting the computer then reinstalling, disabling my security software, ensuring that network discovery is enabled, turning off password protected sharing. All to no joy.
I have confirmed that my PlayBook is on the network and awake, I have confirmed that the laptop can access the PlayBook. Alas, I can't think of a whole lot more to try, so here I am looking for ideas. - 02-23-2012, 02:08 AM #2
I have installed on win7 64 with no problems. Most install errors are caused by windows installer being outdated or not having all of the windows updates. Uninstall the program then Clean out your temp folders, (all of them under Windows and user local and roaming ), and restart your pc. After the restart then reinstall. It is working on my win7 netbook and win7 64 quad core desktop with no problems. I read some of the post also and thought I would try and it was very straight forward.

Thank you kindly for the input. I deleted the temp files under Windows; I was unable to find any temp folders under users, maybe I'm looking in the wrong place. Anyway, I rebooted after deleting, and tried to reinstall with the same result. I'll keep looking tomorrow.

Bumping this since it's already halfway down page 2. I'll let it die if no further suggestions are forthcoming.

I haven't tried it yet on my win 7 64 computer and this seems to simple but I don't see that it's been tried in the steps taken heh did you launch the installer via right click and select run as administrator? I've found that to work on other programs that gave similar errors in the past

I'd say that is common knowledge but I'm sure many people don't. Yes, run as admin. Also ran in different compatibility modes and no success. Still trying to figure this one out.

Error 0x00000002 generally indicates that Windows can't create or find a port for your printer.
Error 0x00000709 is a local DNS name error.
So your computer is having an issue finding the type of device that the driver is specifying, and can't find the name of the device.
Try stopping and restarting the print spooler service on your computer. Also make sure that you've setup your PlayBook as a member of your local workgroup (Settings>Storage & Sharing>Network Identification). That way you're sure that the newer Windows network identification settings that control sharing are letting your computer share properly with other devices.
You may also need to make rules for the application in your AV and firewall.
Just throwing out some print/copy tech know-how to see if it helps! - 04-16-2012, 11:38 PM #13
I've done everything also and can't get Print to Go to work either. I'm on a WinXP. I've turned on File Sharing, sharing the printer, disabled the Firewall, disabled Security Essentials, made sure file sharing was enabled on my PB. I didn't configure the Network ID on my PB because I didn't know what to do. There's info there that I know nothing about. With everything enabled, my PB doesn't show up in My Network Places on my PC.
I think RIM should reevaluate this software because it appears not to properly work for a lot of people....the ones it does work for maybe are serious PC hacks. - 07-31-2012, 04:40 AM #15
I found on my Win 7 64 laptop (by chance) that AVG anti virus screws up the install and stops the registration with BB ID. I worked around by downloading PtG on the PC to a folder, disconnect the PC from the Internet, Disable AVG/antivirus, Install PtG and enter the PIN code and then enable AVG and reconnect to the Internet.
PtG then validates without any problem with BB ID . This worked for me. - 10-05-2012, 01:17 PM #16
Re: Print to Go Install Errors
My experience was on a WinXP machine. Tried installing it, let it sit for hours, no success. Let it sit overnight, no success again. Deleted the directory and tried again. Still nothing. Finally, just before quitting the install again, I went to the Task Manager and found two each of the Net.exe and Net1.exe processes running. Killed one of each of those processes. I then got a disheartening error message, but saw a flash of files being written. Clicking through the error message, I waited less than a minute and the PrintToGo app said "successfully installed." Did a test print and all worked well. Hope this helps.

This worked for me using windows 7 32 bit
stop and start print spooler in services
reboot computer
then run the installer software as the administrator (right click on downloaded file and choose run as administrator)
then re-booted computer once more
everything worked perfectly after that
