Is it just me, or do the wingmen become near enough useless as soon as they are paying you to tag along?

For the record, I did not have to set up my gold Survivor medal on Hard. I won that biatch by getting my arse kicked and running away fair and square!

Extreme is kicking my arse. It's upsetting. When you have a dozen enemies converging instantly on your location, blasting away, there's nowhere to run. I am lucky if I can kill 1 or 2 before I die. EMPs are a complete necessity in combat now. It's the only thing that keeps them off your back for any perceivable length of time. Courier missions are few and far between, and it's really hard to make money. I can't tell you how many times I have died 1.2km from a station.
I feel like I'm going to have to crawl into a quiet corner of the galaxy and mine ore until my fingers bleed, then upgrade everything I've got.

Don't know if this was posted here before:
Valkyrie expantion for Blackberry Playbook • Suggestions • FISHLABS Entertainment ForumHello fellow pilots,
Unfortunately, there are currently no plans to release the add-ons "Valkyrie" or "Supernova" for the BlackBerry PlayBook, but we will keep you up to date for any further information regarding that topic.
Best regards,
Sebastian
That's bad news. I'm pretty sure I've read a few weeks ago that the add-ons were planned to be released. It seems the sales weren't as high as they expected and the plans were put on hold or cancelled. - 08-11-2012, 03:18 PM #357
^^^ bummer if true
Jesus, you're not wrong. Just started extreme... You know how many times I had to re-start the game just to get those three pirates you go after in Betty with Gunant ("to prove you can fight"...) - six times
for three pirates.
This is going to be tough.
I'm mining away now - bleeding fingers here I come.
On a side note does anyone use the accelerometer/tilt controls for the game? Tried and it's tricky. - 08-12-2012, 08:09 PM #360
I love the Accelerometer, much better than driving stick. The trick is to reset it every now and then as your posture changes as you play - normally for me that's every three or four missions ill find I've slouched or something and need to reset the vertical.
Its fun to swoop the PB around chasing pirates!
Read valkyrie etc - perhaps pb owners don't do the ingame purchases like other tablet users do. The game is selling at the top of the pb charts. Maybe were too patient, and our playbooks are too comfy and easy to hold. Too bad. - 08-12-2012, 09:47 PM #361
Is this game really worth 10 bucks and does it have any type of multiplayer?
Sent from my Z10 or a soon to be BB10 PlayBook - 08-12-2012, 11:16 PM #362
Yes and no (respectively).
Put it this way, I got 58 hrs play out of easy, 30 out of hard (skipped normal) and am now 9 hours into extreme... And that'ts just the main game and achievements, there's nothing stopping me continuing on each level with freelance missions or general mayhem.
So overall, this games cost me about $1 (or £ for me) for every 10 hours gameplay. Best £10 i ever spent on a game...

I do not like the accelerometer controls, mostly because I don't like my viewing surface changing angles on me in 3 dimensions. Imagine trying to play Halo with somebody pushing your tv around on a rope swing. GAH. I can handle it with driving games, but tilting my PB towards me or away from me and diagonally to fly around in combat really bugs me and makes it hard to attain any kind of precision whatsoever.
I'm pissed about the expansion. Period. It took them 3 lines of code and 30 minutes to port the iOS audio hooks to PB. There's no reason why they would be losing money on the expansion, and in fact, they may sell more copies of the game if it were know that an expansion was going to be available. The only excuse would be if they are working on a BB10-specific version to make better use of the new OS, but from what I understand, it's not that different from PB at all, so...Member# 4563

After getting killed a lot to start with I've got a bit more used to extreme and am doing ok.
Getting cash is a real pain, mining to start, then a bit of pirating/looting is about the only way to get cash quick.
I laughed the first time wingmen offered me their services for 37!
Have a Nuyang II with some good kit, and have built the intelijets and fluxed matter shield (a must this one).
Kingfisher tractor beam is another must and have recently aquired a sight supressor, so I can actually reach a station/jumpgate without dropping EMP's everywhere...
Have had various factions hating me all the time a with the Vossk and Nivellans both on my case at the same time at one point.
You really have to pick your fights carefully as if you're well outnumbered and there's no local fighters to help out, you're just dead in seconds flat.
On about level 8/9 on the way to sahi to go get sucked in the void wormhole (should be fun)

You need to have a tractor beam in your active equipment. The cheaper ones take some time to lock onto the target (you have to point the ship at the cargo and wait for the tractor beam to lock on). The best one (that I've seen, anyway) is the AB-3 Kingfisher, which automatically and instantly grabs anything in front of you. Definitely worth grabbing as soon as you see one. Makes you fill up your cargo hold in no time at all!

Struggling to mine cores on extreme. You can't buy them, and without Gunant's Drill it's pretty hard even with an IMT extract 4.0X. Need another 7 core's for my T'yol armour...
Would go and get Gunant's drill but it takes 10t of titanium core to build that too and a TON of other stuff
Looks like I'll have to resort to being a bit of a pirate (again) around Vossk area's in the hope of looting some.
Managed to get a Veteran with 3 M6 Wolverines for primarys. Level 12

I went back and played through the game on Easy again, just for a breather before I try Extreme again.
Flying the VoidX with 4 MD 10s is devastating. Makes the dog-fighting a bit more challenging without the lasers' auto-aim. You have to lead your target with the slug throwers.
Plus I really love the RATTATTATTATTATTATTATTATTAT noise they make.

So, what's everyone's best haul from a system raid? I think the biggest single prize I looted was an even DOZEN Hiroto Ultrascans, which I sold for ~$95k a pop. Nice chunk of change, that, plus all the other stuff I looted on the same run.

12 Gram Blasters. Can't remember how much exactly but I was well happy.
Got three of the Hammerhead D2's at one point was a good one...
- 08-16-2012, 08:28 AM #372
Gram blasters go for about $35k.
Oh, quick-and-dirty way to mine for cores, if you have a tractor beam:
1. Nuke the asteroid field. You'll get a few cores and some ore.
2. If there's too many friendlies around, shoot Class A asteroids with your guns, and about half the time, you'll get a core. Go do this in Vossk space, and you should be able to snag 10t titanium core in no time.Member# 4563

Nuking the asteroid field - huh. Never thought of that.
I do enjoy dropping nukes on the "illegal cargo" and "clear space junk" missions. The amr extinctor is ridiculous overkill but makes a pretty boom.
My record is 1s on a space junk mission. - 08-16-2012, 12:37 PM #375
Cool. I've been nuking cargo (and the occasional pirate when I forget to change the secondary weapon!), but I never thought of nuking asteroids and space junk. It does make a nice boom, doesn't it.

Speaking of noise, has anyone tried running the sound through a home theater system while playing this or any other game? I would think a nuke through a good sub-woofer might be quite obnoxious.Ed
