Default Free E-Books for Android Kindle App on Playbook?

My wife stole my Playbook to use as an E-reader and I sideloaded the Android Amazon Kindle App on there for her. Is there a good place to download free books for that I can load on the Playbook, and what file format would they be in?

Type public domain in the search bar and it will load a ton of free books.

Let her go to the Amazon Store, and search for "free Kindle books;" they have thousands.

I managed to find this site...Holy Crap does it have a lot. But the .mobi formats should work fine right just drag and drop to the kindle folder?

All this because she wants to read Anne Rice's The Witching Hour, the physical book is huge

The Android Kindle app will read with mobi or prc files.

But with Overdrive (free) which is an android app but available from appworld you or she can borrow library books. But you do learn that there are even wait lists for library books in the e-world.

DRM free stuff can be read using the Book Reader app without the need for sideloading (I am not going that route) , but I have a Kindle 3G anyway.

Other 'free' stuff is likely to be illegal anyway, and I personally don't agree with this as it takes money from the authors and publishers.

This page updates 10 free Kindle ebooks everyday, and it has collected nearly 20 free ebooks download sites.

Calibre can do that for you. or if u dont want the clutter of many options in Calibre, then u can use the mobipocket creator at mobipocket.com, which can convert multiple files from many formats including PDF to .mobi.

That's a nice list of free ebook resources but I've found it is best to browse the Amazon for the "top 100 Kindle free bestsellers" as searching for "free kindle books" just brings up books with "free" in the title.

Alternatively, the best site free site I have found is Free Kindle Books which is linked to the Amazon database and has all the free kindle books organized by category.

Why not buy it for her? Or, if you are too poor to pay $11.27 for it at the Kindle bookstore, why don't you get a library card (free) and borrow it for her?

    There are legal alternatives.
