I bought the playbook because when I looked on App world it said I could have overdrive media but having read lots on here I don't think I can please somebody help me and tell me whether I can and where I can see what apps I can have AND why can't I have app world apps

Overdrive is a ported android app that will only work on OS2 - it IS available in app world, however unless you've installed the OS2 development beta, you won't see it (app world will filter based on your OS and only show what you can use). OS2 is out later this month (rumour 2 weeks) so you'll see it in app world after you upgrade...
