Is there an app that lists the running applications and that will allow me to shut them down? I see several icons in the taskbar but don't know how to close them.

The icons on the taskbar in OS 2.0 aren't running apps, but rather are recently closed apps. But there are task killers available for sideloading. Try goodereader.com, they may have something.
