- Is anyone able to use the App World browser plugin with their PB?
It appears to work fine with my BB phone, but it won't accept my password when I try to use the plugin with my PB, therefor it doesn't "connect".
Blackberry device manager works fine. I see the PB is connected to the computer, the PB becomes a mounted drive and everything, but the plugin just doesn't want to play nice so I can install apps through it.
I know the password is correct. The password it asks for is basically the password used to unlock the PB when it goes into sleep mode.05-28-12 11:05 AMLike 0 -
- basically it is really annoying that each software
on setup or else wants to have their 'wee' corner
in our already plug-wise overloaded browser.
wanted to make my 1st dl (Free Solitaire) from
Appworld on my desktop today. as a well educated
man I used my BB ID but ended up with nothing else
than frustration -
already been forced to dl und run AppWorldInstaller-en.msi
first it stalls if it is not been setup with admin rights.
what kind of a 4uk!%g plugin is that anyway which wants
to dig itself deep into my desktop system just for one tiny
and free app?
that's why RIM is in decline, spoiling a very
good hardware by torment for nothing hence
distressing customers.

And no, this is not the reason RIM is in trouble. Far too few people use that. It IS much easier to just download directly to the device instead of using proxies like that.
Last time I even bothered with that, I had to use IE to make it work. I'll bite and go test it for you guys...
EDIT: I'd say that the plugin is NOT set to work with the PlayBook.Last edited by diegonei; 06-15-12 at 09:23 AM.
06-15-12 09:02 AMLike 0 - actually I tried!
after the initial setup I closed all connections
for reason appended*.
running on 2.0.0.4869 until last week
I used wlan again because I could not find
"Free solitaire" free floating in the web.
instead of giving me access to the file I was forced to
update the PB to version 2.01 first! I tried to avoid, switched
off/on but I could not access the file system anymore
until I'd updated.
that gave me major reasons for concerns -
something is going on in my back, so I'll stick
to what I find in the web in the future.
no web access for RIM anymore. and that
made me to register here either.
and the recent experience with RIM's effort to hijack
my desktop system the same way its not only a
matter of precaution.
remember?
Microsoft was able to determine gamers
downloading illegal stuff and cut their xbox360 off.
I'll bet RIM has a similar foot in our doors!

When you click a download link in the web version of app world, you get a message telling you to use App World on your PlayBook. And when you try to go to the web version of App World from your PB, you are redirected to the App World app instead. RIM couldn't have made it clearer that they do not support PB installations using a browser.06-15-12 12:42 PMLike 0 - actually I tried!

The tools that you mentioned are means to bypass RIM's officially sanctioned method of loading 3-rd party apps onto your device (which is via PB App World and no other way.) When you use these tools (which are taken from RIM's SDK distributions), you are probably in contravention of RIM's SDK licensing agreement.
Furthermore, if you find native Air, Webworks and NDK apps "free floating in the web" there is no doubt that the copies are being re-distributed illegally and without the developer's permission. IMHO the same comment applies to Android apps that people have conversion to PB format and sideloaded onto their PlayBook. However, it serves no purpose in prolonging that discussion is this particular context.06-15-12 01:00 PMLike 0 - instead of giving me access to the file I was forced to

wow...amazing...stealing is stealing, if your a 360 user, stealing games, that I have to pay for, I think your console should get banned. MS will not ban a clean console, just like RIM will not kill a clean BB or tab. your afraid of an upgrade, to teach your kids to get used to computers, not a good excuse, because stealing is stealing. If you are concerned that someone is watching you, remove the need from concern, because stealing is stealing...BuzzStarField and diegonei like this.06-15-12 01:23 PMLike 2 - folks, neither did I justify a theft nor was it about an
app for nothing.
prior you teach and praise each other here
you shouldn't read crosswise into a**umption.
the former was an example of violation of
Data Protection Act - how MS gained access.
I don't think you'd like your mobile provider or the
police logging into your calls just for the sake of
catching the bad guys using it either. what MS
did is worse than that what the pirates did.
second, "Free solitaire" is a free app from RIM.
what's wrong looking it for free floating some
others been pointed to other apps in this forum either.
third, yes I am concerned and you and millions of
users who e.g. signed Apples or Yahoo conditions aren't.
if that makes me a - fair enough.
consider this as my last post in that matter
