Destop manager won't detect new 8330

I just installed Dm. installs fine and opens fine.
I connect the BB with the supplied USB cable and I get a little icon by the battery indicator for about 2-3 seconds then goes away when I plug it it.
On the Dm I try to detect the BB and it says nothing is connected.
pulling out hair here trying to figure it out. do I need a memory card in order for the computer to see it?
Dm version - 4.3.0.17
BB version - 4.5.0.77

I've had this problem and had to uninstall (use RevoUninstaller) and reinstall DM to get it to work. May not be necessary but it's certainly easy to do to see if it works.

reinstall didn't work.
Also downloaded the 4.7 version from blackberry...still doesn't see the curve.

Do I need a memory card in the curve in order for it to work?

good question about the memory card do you need one in order to connect to the desktop manager?
