| | Whats The Big Deal With Androind Os
I have been searching the web and I have seen pictures
of the droid os.
It seems similar to win mo and I read where it is a linux
based system.
But can someone please explain to me what all the hype
is about.
Trying to understand this.
Thanks

It's just a new OS and it's open source.

It is an open source OS that already has several apps written for it. It is much newer than WinMo. It looks better, runs better, behaves better than WinMo.
The open source part results in LOTS of apps, many of them free. I've already decided that the Storm 2 is no longer what I want, my next phone will be a google phone.
Search YouTube for the G1. It's made by HTC for T-Mobile and runs Android. Look at that and keep in mind that the phones Verizon will be getting are going to be more powerful and have an even newer version of Android than the G1.
I can't wait!

Here is a link to the Android Marketplace to give you an idea of the apps available (Note, this is only the Marketplace, this is like looking at AppWorld, there is a LOT more than what is on this site) Android Market (Check out the Top Free on the left side)

Lots of apps, yet it's still quite a ways behind all of the established OSes...

I can't wait! | I remember when it first came out and they did a news clip on it.
what I liked about it was you were able to get real time google
on it. Now I did see where the browser did not have flash. Also
there appear not to be any screens larger than 3.2
I know it is about to change and hopefully soon on VZW
So kinda like the iphone but less inhibited........
Thanks

I do agree its young as far as phone OSs go though. Quote:

Thanks | Well the Motorola Sholes/Tao/Droid (whatever they end up calling it) is supposed to have a 3.7" screen with a huge resolution of 854x480! This is one of the phones VZW will be getting. The other they are getting is the Hero. I'm not sure on the specs of that one.
Check out this thread for info on the Sholes as well as a link to another forum where there is a LOT of coverage on it (with pics): http://forums.crackberry.com/f150/mo...sholes-328271/

Barely above WVGA, I'm not sure I see much of a benefit of abandoning WVGA for said resolution...
At least if it was WVGA you could port assets easier...

At least if it was WVGA you could port assets easier... | Not sure what their reasoning is. For all I know, that resolution could actually be different, I'm only going off the specs that have been leaked, there isn't much of anything out officially yet. There are shots of the phone running Android and it has been said that there are THOUSANDS out for testing and many verizon store managers may already have some in hand for testing/training, but its all hearsay. The only thing that makes me think 100% that verizon will get it is the pic of the CEO showing it off and it has VZW branding on it

I you tubed the G1; also did some research on the upcoming
phones for next year as well. With google and vzw teaming up
man this is gonna rock. I am glad I took the time to ask
instead of jumping right away. I am definitely gonna do my best to see whats coming especially in the beginning of next year; and mid summer. Oh man

its an awesome working, smooth, very stable platform from my experience. i love the flow of it compared to even a blackberry and windows mobile. i found iphone OS to be slow compared to even my storm (post .75). my experiences are based on the G1 and i would have kept it but because tmo did not work as well for voice services compared to verizon.
what i did not like about the G1 andriod was the battery life. it sucked, it was the first phone i bought a car charger for in years. sad i know. the memory for apps was also pathetic, the headphone jack was retarded and the keyboard seemed more left handed friendly as the bottom hardware buttons were on the right side and hindered the use of the keyboard on the right side(at least in my opinion anyway). again mostly hardware issues on a first gen device. tmo 3G was nice and fast too, very smooth looking and feeling, and many times even worked while in a voice call! (network dependent i know)

Wow, your right, almost all of your issues were with the hardware, gives me more faith in the OS and if it is on a beast phone like the Sholes, then

yep, and it wasnt even "issues". the storm is nothing but a huge issue. the G1 was more like the Guinea pig for andriod OS based devices.
i was upset tho that after all the years of PDA devices being made, why so many obvious things were ignored. battery life was probably an unknown until used in the real world. but whatever, the device is great, its coming on a year old now and its still working like the day i got it! (i gave it to a friend of mine who uses it and abuses it!)
