You're thinking of Opera Mini, not Opera Mobile... Opera 9.7 beta has opera turbo feature, but I doubt this is using it....

Again, on the Droid issue, you're comparing two different browsers that render pages *COMPLETELY DIFFERENTLY* and claiming the cpu matters... It doesn't... 500mhz vs 1ghz has nothing to do with "checkerboarding", it's the way the freakin browser renders the page...

This is completely ignoring the fact that the OSes are 100% different as well, making cpu spec direct comparisons worthless.... This is also ignoring the fact that the cpu mhz means nothing in terms of the overall performance, since one chipset to the next is completely different and the mhz isn't a complete indicator of that performance...

You are misinforming people... But most people here don't know much about WM or care anyways, so whatever... This part of the forum is 99% dead anyways.

If the processor were not a factor in the browsing, I doubt the guy would've been commending the HD2 on have significantly less checkerboarding than the rest of the WinMo phones out there running the same browser.

Idk, maybe I'm expecting a lot faster transitions and better browsing because it has some killer specs. Switching from landscape to portrait doesn't seem faster than any other device I've seen.

Snapdragon is a faster chipset than the one in the droid/iphone. I do agree that OS makes a major difference though.

The checkerboarding is one of two things:
1) network speed, if the data isn't loading fast enough to fill the unloaded areas.
2) The browser redraw speed when panning around the page.

If the issue was the cpu speed, you would see the device chugging when panning around quickly. The HD2 doesn't chug at all though.

Gotcha, learned something new. So the HD2 is beyond the software available to it. That's just sucky.

I used to like WinMo, which is why I was interested in this phone. Doesn't seem as good as I hoped though.

The browser redraw is 100% CPU-related.

I've seen a video comparing all those speeds including switching between landscape and portrait. HD2 usually equals it. Apple is pretty clever throwing in that little transition animation to buy it some time in switching orientations. Prettay prettay prettay smart.

I dont think that was the purpose of having a transition animation lol. The iphone actually, at times, recognized the switch began switching orientation before the HD2 and ended up finishing at the same time BECAUSE it has the animation instead of the instant switch.

Not the "checkerboarding" in opera mobile on Windows Mobile... You can pan around and still have smooth phone response yet the page doesn't update fast enough.

Try a different browser and see if the behavior is identical. It won't be.
