Ok so Microsoft has officially released windows mobile 7 as thought would happen at Mobile World congress in Barcelona. So with the overhual of the operating system finally happening how long do you guys think it will be before Blackberry follows the trend.

2-3 Years, until you can call it a complete overhaul
that will be done incrementally though, I don't expect to see RIM to ever do something overly dramatic to change the OS, baby steps, slow and steady. Keep business moving

There is a difference as windows mobile was viewed by many as a failure almost from the start. How long do you think before apple does an overhaul...it's been 3 or 4 years hasn't it? It is getting a bit moldy.

Seems like those who have jumped to huge overhauls aka palm hasn't made out so well.

I don't get it....why do iphone users and Blackberry users have to jab each other about their phones? In my opinion it's like arguing about apples and oranges. Both phones are great and deserve their due.

I actually think the BB OS doesn't need a complete revamp. It does need things like a better browser, the ability to handle more memory, and things like Flash, but most of those are already in the works.
The current OS makes it easy to quickly move around and gain access to things. It does it efficiently and securely.... and it works. My would I want to have them take a chance on messing things up when the enhancements they are making seem to be improving what we can do without too much of a change.

BGR reports that the RIM has started working on the OS 6.0 but how long it might take is anyone's guess.

BlackBerries would have to start hemorrhaging marketshare before RIM would or should consider an overhaul for their product. Microsoft didn't overhaul Windows Mobile out of choice, but rather out of necessity.

RIM is going to have to work fast. I have a storm2 which I like. Prior to that I had a storm and a pearl. I strongly prefer the BlackBerry platform to other systems because of BBM and push email. I have a Zune and love it. The new Windows 7 Mobile uses the Zune interface (much slicker and more logical than the apple interface imo) and incorporates Sharepoint, OneNote, Zune subscription and looks incredibly slick. Microsoft has been in the phone segment for years and with the new system, I think that they will do well in both the consumer and corporate arena. RIM is quickly running out of time and Palm will be the first to go bust. I think that google will have trouble competing against a revamped microsoft phone.

I actually think RIM's business just got better w/ the release of the new win7 phone. The old windows mobile was a business platform and MS is now completely leaving this arena.
From the looks of it, new win7 competes DIRECTLY with the casual/entertainment gadgets like the iphone. Integrated social networking, xbox live support, zune-like music and media enhancements. There has been almost no mention of business-friendly features.
Some companies may have used the old windows mobile. Now almost all businesses will have 1 option... blackberry.

The new platform will have Office, SharePoint, OneNote, Outlook all directly integrated into the device, making it better for business than the BlackBerry in these areas. Ray Ozzie was the guy behind Lotus and then Groove. I'm sure this part will be as perfect as possible. In addition, the screen will be easy to read. It won't take too long for the apps to be ported over. Microsoft is very good with SDK. The problem with the iPhone is it's not great in these areas. BB has been okay. This new device promises to be better.
