Default Linux Mobile (LiMo?!) the new Android?

So I happen to catch a couple articles announcing Linux was going Mobile. Being Open Source, what's every ones input on how this will play in the market?

Frankly, I'm all about an Open Source OS that doesn't have the Google machine tied to it.

I'm also actually curious how this will differ from Android. I don't know much about this, but I read Android was based off Linux. Can Linux Mobile itself offer something Android can't?

Any input would be great. I'm quite curious about thus.
