Default Blackberry Bold - Iphone

So I currently own a blackberry bold, but would like to switch the SIM card to an Iphone. My friend had an Iphone so I just switched my SIM card into the Iphone and everything worked except for the 3G. Now the Iphone said it had 3G but with the Blackberry SIM in it I could not utilize the 3G service to get on the internet or use my applications. But when I used the Wi-Fi feature on the Iphone everything worked fine. I have seen many different situations on here and my question is simply put....Is it possible to have an Iphone fully work (3G, applications, and phone calls) with my blackberry SIM card? Does unlocking the Iphone take care of my above mentioned problem?^ Just looking for ideas...
