Virgin Mobile Canada is now owned by Bell Canada and is sharing networks with Bells 3G network. That is why its working but you won't get EDGE though.

Virgin Mobile USA is a subsidiary of Sprint and is CDMA. Therefore, the 9780 cannot be used on Virgin Mobile USA. Since your current carrier in your profile is AT&T, I am considering you are in the USA, not Canada.

What's the best blackberry that can be used on Virgin Mobile's CDMA network? If I wanted to use a 9650 & get everything to work than would I have to buy it from Canada if I wanted to use it on Virgin Mobile(USA)?

To piggyback on this phone topic, can you use a different phone from Sprint or Verizon (a Thunderbolt, for example.. or EVO 4G) on a service like Virgin Mobile or Boost Mobile? I've never even considered using one of these cheaper plan companies, but am considering it.
Or, you just pick one of their offered phones, and live with it?

Posted from my CrackBerry at wapforums.crackberry.com | VM 8530 is the only choice.
(I know the post is a couple weeks old but just for future reference...) Quote:

Boost Mobile 8530 is the only choice if you still want all the BIS features. Or, you can use a Sprint 9630 on the $50 or PayGo plans without BIS (but with working AppWorld, Traffic, and a bunch of third party apps) and with full 3G data. BB Protect, BBM, BBMaps, and other official RIM apps will not work unless you're using a carrier-branded 8530 on either Sprint prepaid carrier.

Personally, I am not staying with a BB.. that's why I asked about other phones in general, like the EVO or TBolt.

The Evo is possible with illegal methods.
I don't mean illegal like not using your turn signal...more like having your account locked, losing any balance, potentially losing your phone number, and the option for the government to pursue fines/prison within the law.
Worth it for a phone? Not for me. Anyone who promises any of the "super" phones on Boost is using an illegal method, and by extension, so is the end user. So be careful out there

Thanks for the info. I'm not looking to do any shady stuff here.. only weighing my options for the change.

Thanks Thuoudo
If My only choice for Virgin Mobile is 8530 than I may try MetroPCS. I've seen YouTube videos that say a bunch of blackberries will work on there but you have to buy an 8530 first.

Posted from my CrackBerry at wapforums.crackberry.com | It takes somewhat a lot of work to flash a device.
It's not recommended for people who don't know what they're doing.
Also, it's spelled Boost Mobile.
Sorry, it bugs me too much. LOL.

Posted from my CrackBerry at wapforums.crackberry.com | You can "just" be prosecuted for "just" modifying a phone's ESN.
