Default MetroPCS network, and a blackberry phone. HELP.

Ok, I love my curve on the tmobile network and I'm not switching. Altho my brother is on MetroPCS but he does not have a blackberry.

Metro has a new bring your own phone campeign thingy goin where u can bring ur own cmda phone and get it activated.

I kno their network supports data but not sure (I don't think they do) about push email and such.

Would he be able to buy a verizon curve and run it on the metro network? I'm sure I can find an unlocked one if they don't want to unlock it them selves.

Thanks!

You cannot unlock a Verizon Wireless Blackberry, as they are CDMA devices and are ESN specific as opposed to running off SIM cards. Sorry!

You need to get your hands on an 8310 or 8320 if you want a GSM device. Look on ebay.

The OP is asking if his brother can use a VZW BBerry on the Metro PCS. If MetroPCS can flash the Berry to work on their CDMA network I don't see why the phone part wouldn't work. I don't think you'll be able to find an "unlocked" VZW Berry.

I am reading this correctly. What I am saying is that, despite the fact both networks are CDMA, you cannot unlock a CDMA phone.

Duh, sorry. Even so, as far as I know you cannot unlock a CDMA phone. The best thing to do would be to as a phone ulocking company.

Then why is metro doing the offer of "bring your own phone"? Unless I'm misinformed, you must unlock a phone to use it on a different network.

Unlimited Wireless Service - MetroPCS

Says right on their site...

"We can activate your existing phone on our state of the art network"

"Keep your phone, use our network, and you don't have to sign a contract"
"Requires CDMA phone"

I don't think they would "unlock" it. They would flash the phone with their user interface to make it work on their network and add the ESN to their database of ESN's.

Correct. This is what I have heard, as well. Again - there is no way to "UNLOCK" a CDMA device.

Aight thanks everyone.

Next question, how would this a blackberry be reliable on their data network? is it up to par with other network speeds? Not really informed about data rates and such.

Thanks again.

Default Flashing New BB 8830 to MetroPCS

Hello,

Any luck in getting steps to flash the BB to MetroPCS? I am trying to do the same. I would appreciate any help. I saw a posting by HouseApe but I could not find the steps.

Default Dont do it!

You would be better off just buying the BlackBerry that Metro has, because when Metro unlocks the phone for you all of the features don't work. And what's the point of having a BlackBerry if you cant use it to its fullest capabilities? Plus Metro's overall service isn't that great.
